wellbutrin SR and neurotin or other mood stabilize

Posted by roo on March 1, 2001, at 12:52:48

Anyone ever take these combined? I was curious about
trying Wellbutrin SR because of the no sexual side effects.
I tried the regular version in the past but it seemed like
it made me anxious and depressed (I tried it for a month, so
I felt like I was giving it a fair trial). I was hoping
that maybe the SR version wouldn't make me as anxious and
irritable as the regular version. Also, another thing has
changed since I last tried Wellbutrin and that is that I now
take Neurotin, for both anxiety and as a mood stabilizer.
I was wondering if the neurotin might make me more tolerant
of the wellbutrin b/c of it's calming effect.

Any thoughts?

I just added 100 mg of Wellbutrin SR to 40mg of Celexa and 100mg of Topamax, a mood stabilizer. The point of the Wellbutrin is to counteract the sedation of the Topamax. I have noticed the irritibility already from the W. Like you, I am hoping that the mood stabilizer will offset the side effects of the W., and vice versa. I'll let you know how it goes for me.

Roo,

I've been on 400mg WB SR for almost a year. Was also on Remeron with the WB, but dropped that last fall and added Neurontin. Now I take 200mg Neurontin in the am with 200mg WB, another 200 WB at 3 pm, and 800 mg Neurontin for sleep at night. Pdoc added Celexa in the morning about 5 weeks ago to help with some increased irritability because he thought I needed some serotonin. I've been on 20mg for 3 wks.; going one more week, then re-evaluating.

I think the Neurontin helped. It seemed to even out the moods, which before felt like I could not control. I didn't mind getting off the Remeron, which I had been taking for more than 2 years. We weren't sure that it was working. However, my sleep has not been as good since I've been off the Remeron. Neurontin helps, but it sure isn't Remeron. We are currently evaluating this WB/Neu/Celexa combo to see whether it is beneficial. There have been pesky side effects with the Celexa -- including fatigue and apathy, and my sleep has not been as good.

Hope this helps.

Allison
