I would like to try Adrafinil, and my pdoc is willing to prescribe it, but only if we can find out for certain whether or not it is a controlled substance in the U.S. (since it's similar to modafinil). I'm assuming from the number of folks on this board who have used it that it can't possibly be controlled, but my doc needs some "official" proof.
Also, I know that some pharmacies are willing to sell it w/o a prescription, but I'm not entirely comfortable with that and my doctor is even less so.
Any suggestions?

Here there are specific steps for how controlled a substance is (e.g., one, two or three category), so I don't think they would bother to classify drugs which are not FDA approved for use. Again, just a guess.

On the other hand, other substances like Ritalin or Adderall are impossible to get. So if Adrafinil is a controlled substance, it's probably way down low on the list I would assume. Otherwise it would be impossible to get just like the other real controlled substances.
Personally I don't see how it could be a controlled substance because it does not have addictive qualities, tolerance building, or any kind of a high. It sure plays a strong role in conquering my stubborn depression, but it doesn't in any way seem similar to a controlled substance to me. It does not provide any instant gratification, unlike the controlled substances which generally do offer some kind of instant gratification.

> ShelliThanks, Shelli. This occurred to me too after I posted my message. Definitely makes sense, so I'll mention it to my doc.

On the other hand, neither does modafinil, as far as I know, yet it is Schedule IV.
