I want to feel numb... I don't want to feel that sting of anxiety, and the compulsive thinking. I like that certain serotonin numbness which I experienced on Paxil, but Paxil made me too unmotivated. I imagine other SSRI's would help. Right now I'm on Remeron, which works great for blocking feelings of self worth and lowering anxiety, but something feels lacking. I take Remeron 60 mg a day, Klonopin 1mg a day, and COncerta 18mg a day. Should I augment the remeron with something like Prozac, or should I just switch the Remeron with a more potent Serotonin acting drug? Thanks.

When I saw your header the first thing that came to mind was Remeron but since you already know what thayt will do to you, Have you thought about Risperdal at all? After a few days it wiped out just about every bit of emotion I had. I felt completely numb and couldn't stand it.
Just a thought

When I was on high doses of Zyprexa I was as numb as you can get!! Although, I didn't like that feeling...so my dosage was lowered and tapered more thru-out the day.

Thanks guys, but I was looking for drugs along the line of SSRI's. I remember reading in a post from a while back that Prozac made people feel like they were "cushioned" or in a little "cocoon". Oh well, thanks anyway.

Jack, I have also in the past, been on SSRI's...Prozac, and Zoloft. My experience? Neither one sedated me, actually I felt 'nothing' different when on either of them, not even when my dosage was raised.
I know too, that after the big "Fen-Phen" scare with dieters that people were taking the Prozac with the Phentermine!! That would just lead me to believe that some people must get energy from it....???
Hope this helps somewhat. I gave the SSRI's a chance, and they failed me...I've also been on Serzone, Remeron, Celexa, and many others.

Hi Jack,
Prozac gives people energy and hypes them up a bit. When I was on Prozac alone, it had a tendency to increase agitation. In fact one of the main side effects of Prozac is increased agitation.
Therefore, recently my pdoc said he thinks I have a bit of BP so he put me on Risperdal as an adjunct to the Prozac. It's a nice combo, I can feel pretty "numb" on it at about a 1 mg dose of the Risperdal and 10 mg of Prozac but I prefer to only take .50 mg Risperdal. I don't feel anxiety or jitters or anything on this combo, I actually feel the best I've felt in a long time!
Best of luck to you in your search.

prozac, effexor, and zoloft all sedate me. effexor was the most numbing, then zoloft, then prozac. my pdoc had to put me on welbutrin just to wake me up.

> Pamela Lynn,
If all of those drugs failed, which ones worked for you?

I am on Effexor, Wellbutrin, Zyprexa and Xanax for anxiety/panic attacks....These meds. together have FINALLY made a difference in my life, I have pretty much 'had it together' for over a month now.
Hope that answers your question.

I was on a combo of Adderall, Amitriptyline (at bedtime), Prozac, and Wellbutrin (and maybe Serzone--can't recall when exactly the doc added that one.), and I was very numb.
The Wellbutrin made me feel frustrated, extremely so. Everything made me angry and helpless, lots of agitation. Thus, I hated it.
The Prozac put me in a cocoon, a dark lonely silent cocoon. Originally, I was jump started on Prozac at 20 mgs. I got wired, I got scared, I got really quiet. Then I was numb, however, this was a very negative experience for me as I have a family who needs a feeling caring and compassionate Alpha female. I dropped the Prozac and Wellbutrin. A year later I'm back on Prozac taking 25-30 mgs. per day and definitely not numb!
Also, the AED's can be very numbing and mood stabilizing. Tegretol (carbamazepine?) knocked me into outer space for quite a while, forgot to go to college classes or buy food, not a very good promoter of self-sufficiency--at least for me. But, NUMB is the word!
Best of Luck to you on your search!

p.s. Regarding the whole circle of anxiety, compulsive thinking, and the havoc left in their wake, maybe you could consider one of the new generation Antipsychotics, and possibly Anticonvulsants, as some of them really work on the anxiety angle.
This is the end of the thread.
