AS with Zoloft and Prozac, and even to some extent Serzone...
75mg of Effexor makes me feel like I want to grind my teeth down to the root, or rip off my skin strip by strip! It makes me very agitated!!!!!!
neither manic nor panic characterizes it well.
What do you think this is and what should be done about it?(underlying anxiety disorder or bipolar disorder or just a side-effect?!)
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Could be a lot of things. It could be akathesia or just plain old SSRI activation...common in the first couple weeks on an SSRI. I get this way the first week or two on an SSRI or Effexor...have to move around a lot, feel "wired," sweat a lot, feel "icy hot" like a burning feeling, increased anxiety, etc. Feel activated off my ass. Like I just have to lay down on my bed and lay there, but also have to move around a lot. Then it totally goes away after a few days to a week and I feel better. But first I have to go thru that initial "SSRI activation" phase.Id say if this problem goes away on its own after a few weeks its probably no biggie...probably just the drug activation and your body adjusting to the AD. If it continues longterm though, more than a few weeks, thats definitely not something youd want. If it continues, maybe a mood stabiliser would be in order on top of the antidepressant. Some people cant tolerate antidepressants without a mood stabiliser added.

It could be "bruxism," technical term for teeth-grinding. SSRIs and other serotonin-boosting drugs have been reported to cause this problem. The exact reason is unclear. Reportedly, trial of buspirone (BuSpar) alleviates this problem.
