Effexor Withdrawal Impossible with a full time job

Posted by Mr. Scott on February 6, 2002, at 11:26:43

I don't think it's possible to kick this stuff and work full time. I've done benzo withdrawal many times while employed or in school, but when I stop the Effexor I get depressed and anxious within days.

Some people crossed the river jumping to prozac or Buspar while dropping Effexor. (you can check out Angell's post just a couple of threads away:" I weaned off Effexor with Buspar...").
You could ask your pdoc if that is possible.

P.S.

In my personal experience i noticed that effexor withdrawal can be particularly nasty if you have suffered from some kind of consistent stress during the last months: it might show up when you're unconvered. I' d check that out.

I weened off Effexor and onto Prozac and it wasn't too bad. I would suggest taking another SSRI concurrently and tapering off very slowly. Give the process about a month. Or do you mean to stop taking meds completely? Why are you stopping the Effexor? For me it was because it was making my heart race and not doing too much for my depression and low energy. Good luck....

This is exactly why I am coming off Effexor now - while I'm outof work.. I doubt I could handle it atall whilst having to deal with work too...

Are you changing to something else?? My pdoc has asked me to investigate what other options I want to try now... tried just about all SSRI's, TCA's.. Zyprexa is helping with the obessesive, suicidal thoughts, but i need something ti lift the black cloud..

It looks like I'll be staying on it for awhile. I was hoping to ditch for a strict mood stabiler regimen and maybe adding wellbutrin, but as soon as I try to ditch the effexor, my life is suddenly overwhelming. I don't have a problem with the swooshing or brain shocks, just the depression, lethargy, and anxiety.
