I have been away from this board a very long time, due to life and it's constraints lately.
I was diagnosed with Major Depressive Syndrome a couple of years back and have been on the meds merry-go-round on and off since then. Paxil, Prozac, Wellbutrin and Celexa. All had problems I could not deal with as side affects.
I also have sleep apnea, severe spinal arthritis, degenerative disk disease along with the fact my father is dying. For those who might remember me, he was diagnosed two years ago with terminal cancer, and has amazed all of us by lasting this long, when the docs gave him 3-6 months.
I have now found a new Pyschiatrist, who is trying me on Serzone. After reading as much as I can find about it, I was wondering....
Are any of the folks who posted to the older Serzone threads, still on it? If so, how is it going? Any input on this would be helpful.
I have been on Prozac again, but pulled myself off all meds because I just couldn't deal with the anorgasmia any more.
Any thoughts, experience, ideas about Serzone would be appreciated.
Regards,
RhainyC

I have blocked myself from the psb board, but I have come alive on this board for you. I've been on Serzone for three years, though not for depression--for sleep. I take 250 mg. (down from 300). The dosage for the AD effect is usually between 300 and 600, and it generally only works for anxiety at as low as 300.
My orgasms are great.

I am sorry for all you are dealing with ... you have a lot on your plate.
As for your Serzone concerns, well, a new pdoc that I consulted prescribed Serzone for me, BUT I have decided (at least for now) NOT to switch to it (my a-d right now is EffexorXR) because I have heard almost unanimously that Serzone is very sedating and is more of a sleep aid than an a-d or anything else.
I could be mistaken (hopefully someone more knowledgeable will jump in here to correct me if need be), but I THINK that Serzone is not an SSRI, so it doesn't cause the sexual side effects associated with SSRI's but as I said above, the only *benefit* I gather about Serzone is that it can be a good sleep aid.
Hopefully others who are on it or who have taken it will give you more info.

Just curious why you blocked yourself from this PB board? I did so awhile back because all of the info was getting overwhelming and I felt like I was on overload!

I quit the social babble because people take it too seriously. I also think a few folks need some real help; that board isn't healthy for them. Besides, I needed to get a life!

Thanks for the positive input. I am glad that it is helping you. I have sleeping problems as well, and until recently was on Trazdone for that, along with Neurontin. I am going back on the Neurontin, and with the Serzone, hope my sleep returns.

I am following your other thread as well. Thanks for bringing it up.

I had no sedation/sleep help with Serzone. After the first 10 days, it agitated me terribly to where I would just keep crying. I stayed on it a couple of more weeks and raised my dose gradually to where I was taking about 350-400 mgs a day. It really agitated me. I did not find it sedating. However, it works differently for many folks. It just was not for me. I hope you have better luck.
