First of all, asking for this info is against the policy of this board, which YOU agreed to when you joined.

Second of all, getting it without a prescription is not prudent. Even if you don't have medical insurance, you're better off walking into a clinic and asking for it than getting it from the gray market. It could be counterfeit, etc.

And if you're planning on taking Provigil for longer than a month, I'd seriously consider getting on some type of medication coverage anyway. Even the most expensive medication plan would not exceed the cost of Provigil per year. We're talking about what, $500/month? For that price, you're better off getting a PPO, having any specialist you want without a PCP referral, and access to any medicine with cheap co-pays.

Then again, those doctor visits sure can be "embarassing." How, I don't know, but that's what the Google ads tell me, so they must be true, right?

Can you direct me to that policy? I can't find it stating that anywhere.

Policy? A PPO is a type of managed care health insurance. You'd have to talk to your employer about it, and spend a few hundred (at least) extra per month than the HMO would cost you underneath your employer.

A PPO is a premium managed care plan that lets you see any doctor you wish without a referral. If it's in network, you get it covered minus any co-pays. If it's out-of-network, you still get 80% covered (which is a great safety net, because 99% of the time you'll find someone in-network anyway).

In my case, it also means I can see my psychiatrist, and any mental health professional, as many times as I want without prior approval. And I just call the doctor directly, no dealing with my GP to refer me to one. It's great for people as messed up as I am, because I've had to see two different neurologists, a pulmonary specialist, three different psychopharmacologists (for second opinions) ER docs now and then (which cost $30, and even that's waived if I'm admitted overnight) and surgeries and so fourth. Oh, I also see a dermatologist, have about 7 different meds I take a month, and all meds are covered... the most expensive, however, are "tier-3", which wind up being the ones I need these days, costing $30 in co-pays versus $5 or $15 for t-1 and t-2s.

It's under my dad's insurance plan, and he pays hundreds of dollars more a month just so my family has a PPO instead of an HMO. I'm hoping to use the next two years of it as much as possible to see specialists to sort out my problems, because I have sleeping disorders, anxiety, ADD, and stuff.

You need to speak with your employer about insurance options. It's not like you buy it online. But I can guarantee you, if you don't have insurance, don't even bother thinking about a drug that costs like $500 a month. That's $6000/yr. Why would you do that?

Policy for not asking about meds w/o RX???

What do you need it for? If you need it for a legitimate reason, then research the pros and cons of the med (you can start by using the web, including this website) and find a respectable psychiatrist to prescribe it for you.

Even if you were to find a source of Provigil with out prescription, you run the risk of getting a contaminated and inferior product, and you would just be exposing yourself to unreasonable harm.

Go to your general Doc if you have to.
For what it's worth (and Im not judging you) there is no euphoria or "high" associated with Provigil (if that's why you want the drug)

I would compare it to caffeine (with out the sense of wellbeing that often accompanies caffeine)

If you see a qualified psychiatrist and they think it's appropriate, I'll bet you can get free samples to try -- the company that's marketing it is handing out lots. It's also cheaper to buy as Alertec (same thing) from online Canadian pharmacies such as www.crossborderpharmacy.com. However, they absolutely require a legitimate prescription from a U.S. doctor, which makes it perfectly legal, as far as I can tell.

There are ways to get it cheaper online, but I won't detail these here, partly because (as others have pointed out) you can't be sure of what you're getting. Besides, a clearly stated policy of this board is that info on obtaining prescription drugs without a prescription is strictly off-limits.
