But does the Klonopan help agorophobia?

Posted by AndyD on July 16, 2003, at 21:03:09

I have been keeping a close eye on the board and looking back at the archives. I understand much more about the benzos, Thank you all. I guess my big thing is that I live almost anxiety free day to day. Im just scared to death to leave my safe zone. That brings on unbearable anticiptory anxiety and eventually a panic attack, which after that happens I am OK? To go where I want and do what I want, but I have to have that panic attack. Crazy or what. Anyway, if my silly pill a phobic butt takes this klonopin, will it ease up on my anxiety so that maybe just maybe, I can start going places further away than 30 miles without losing my damn mind? :)

Thanks much all,
Andy

IMO it is VERY probable that Klonopin will help you out with your condition.
Take care,
Brad

I would have to agree with Brad,Klonopin will probably work.... for me at least Klonopin was more of a pro-social drug, than an anti-anxiety drug. It is worth a try...it comes in very small dosages... .25mg may do the trick.

You may also want to consider exposure therapy (if you haven't already) in combination with Beta blockers

i took small doses of it from march until now and i was agorophobic and had chronic panic attacks, i would say that the klonopin helps allievate the panic attack and keeps you calm on a day to day basis but it may be more of you just knowing that you have that safegard than anything else. generally it wont do much of anything except make you tired although i did get a sedative like high a few times which kinda felt like i was stoned although i generally did not get as paranoid and it wasnt as intense and did not last as long. the klonopin will likely not help with agorophobia, that will take cognitive behavioral therapy, (try some of the 12 step books if you dont have enough money for a psychologist, one good one if 12 steps to end panic and take back your life by denise beckfield) but if you do have an attack the klonopin will likely end it if your willing to take it and this will work no matter what environment your in, by the time the drug wears off your attack will be over, although the axiety will not, only therapy will really help with the more permanent solution.
