Has anyone experienced bounts of anger while on Remeron? I've started to notice sometimes If I am in a conversation that starts to get heated, I just get really angry and actually feel like throwing something or breaking something, but I don't because I realise it would be pointless, but it still feels like I am easily becoming angrier than usual.

Yes I had that problem,
some people say its attributed to
the antihistamine effect, and that
as the sedation leaves so will
the anger.YOu probably feel angriest in the mornings,
do you ?Linkadge

Hi.Linkadge might be right. I don't have enough of a "feel" for Remeron to be able to comment on his input. However, there is another possibility. I have noticed over the years that as I emerge out of depression, one of the first things that happens is a return of emotions like anger. I am to a degree irritable. My depression is so bad otherwise as to totally blunt my affect. I am too depressed to be angry - or bored for that matter. When I feel myself getting board, I know I'm getting better! Controlling the emerging anger that had been previously blunted might be difficult in the beginning, but you will learn to control it as you gain more experience with it. However, the initial period of irritability due to a treatment success will pass.
I am not sure that this applies to you, but it is a possibility. I hope that it does apply. Otherwise, it might simply be a side effect that will more than likely pass soon.
One more possibility I just thought of: If you are bipolar and experience mania, Remeron might have triggered a mixed-state hypomania.

Yes, I do mostly think I get the anger from the astihistamine.. because it's usually when I feel a bit tired..it can get really bad where I have really bad fits of anger..and actually I've noticed I've been acting like a bit of an asshole to everyone even after I've had a good sleep, like I might say something insulting..after talking to someone..I've just uped my dose so it might start to go away.

I havn't completey ruled out the possibility of me being bipolar yet..I don't go throuth different moodes very often though, I'm usually pretty depressed most the time, but if I'm out drinking I'm usually alright and pretty happy, but that's probably just the alchohol...and crazychickuk you way want to try to up your dose a bit to get over the sedating effect, 37.5 for me is starting to clear that up a bit.

Hi: I've been on Remeron for just over a week, starting at 30mg. (If you read my previous posts you'll see my list of side effects!). I experienced irritability by day 3 and was downright argumentative for no good reason at all. I picked a fight with my husband several times...which is unusual for me. I was also very drowsy and light headed at the time, even at the 30mg. Last night I took 45mg and today feel MUCH less drowsy and very even-tempered!! So I do think, like others, that the irritability comes with the sedation. This seems to be due to the dominant histamine affect at lower doses. You might want to suggest to your Doc that you increase your dose. It looks like that's working for me anyway. Good luck.
