Im currently on buprenorphine 1.2mg, nortriptyline 60mg & amitriptyline 110mg. The amitriptyline has been for the last 3 weeks & I have been increasing up to this current dose which Ive been on for 3 days. This morning I woke up with swelling all over my body. Over the last couple of months Ive had 2 or 3 occasions where I was retaining fluid but nowhere near this bad. This morning my fingers were fat & even around my neck & face there was swelling. The feeling was very unpleasant. I took frusemide 40mg & after several hours there was a decrease in the discomfort. Im still very bloated & am seeing the gp tomorrow morning. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here I am starting to worry?

In reply to Oedema what's causing it??, posted by Liligoth on November 25, 2003, at 6:32:52
I hope I don't scare you to death with this answer---that is not my intention. But oedema (edema to us Americans), especially around the neck, can be a sign of congestive heart failure, in which your heart cannot pump blood fast enough to prevent fluid buildup in your body. It is very important you keep your appointment with your GP. Hopefully, it is something else entirely, but make sure you get it checked out.
