I'm starting the the first day of week number two on 10mg of Lexapro & need some encouraging words. I didn't have a hard time eating or sleeping before, but since the first day I started taking it, I've not had much of an appetite, I've been nauseous and I've had horrible insomnia - usually waking up with severe anxiety (which is fairly new). I don't want to give up if it truly gets better after the 2nd week. Let me know!!

Dont give up! I'm not gonna lie this week coming up may not go down in the books as your greatest week ever...but in a week or two more you will start to feel BETTER instead of worse..
week 2 stinks..for me the worst part was not being able to sleep well...but after week 2 that has gotten much much better..and now am back to my normal sleep schedule..
just post away and take care of yourself and you will get thru it...just treat yourself as if you have the flu or something..take it easy and get plenty of rest..

Thank you!! I really needed that - I feel like worse off now than before I started it so that is helpful. I think that eating and sleeping are two of my favorite things so I'm not a happy camper right now.

Week 2 was hell week for me too. And then wk 4 I got worse depression and anxiety. Doc raised my dose, and it was week 9 before I felt better.
It's tough and takes time but the results are worth it. Hang in there!~~~8|8

Help! Can you guys give us some specific examples of how you feel better. I am freaking out, I am on day 2 of Lexapro and it is not sounding good. I hate being nauseous, though I could use to lose some weight. But seriously, is it really worthwhile? I was on Wellbutrin a couple years ago and had some side effects including alopecia (hair loss) which went away. But this sounds more like effexor type side effects. Okay, so if you can give me a light at the end of the tunnel, that would be great. Peace and good health.

Hi Twuffy,
I freaked out a little bit my first few days on Lex. The side effects can be bad, thats for sure. When I first started taking it I gave the Lex a time limit and told myself that if I couldn't cope with the side effects after a week then I would stop taking it. I'm on day 19 now. The side effects are still there, but they have improved a lot.
One thing you might begin to notice is that the side effects have a pattern. (e.g. An hour after taking it you feel dizzy and that goes away after another hour.) Monitoring the side effects like this helped me cope with them because I knew what to expect and when it was going to happen.
The side effects have diminished quite a bit from when I started taking the Lexapro. I still have some, but they're tolerable. But don't continue to take a drug if the side effects are too much. There are hundreds of medications out there and you'll find the right one. Best of luck on the Lex!

If you don't mind spending a little time reading......there is a lot of good info, experiences, etc. in previous periods on this board. Just about any question you have has been dealt with, and many similar experiences are detailed.
If you are not into that - I can tell you it does get better, but you have to endure the initial side effects to get there. I have been on Lex almost 1 year and it has been great for me.
Best of luck!~~~8|8

Thanks Mariposa, but I have been reading past stuff at least that which I find using the searcH engine and it all is negative except for some very short posts. With all the specifics on negatives it would be good to know the positives. But I suppose if it really works, I wouldn't be spending much time here! Thats what happened with the WB. I was here lots while I was experiencing problems and then when it worked, I was gone, though I did do a post to let people know. Any help for this one is much appreciate.

What has Lexapro done for me???
1. No more road rage - it was a BIG problem before.
2. No more insomnia - I was miserable befor, never sleeping well, now I sleep soundly through the night. Do not wake at 3AM and stare at clock until alarm goes off like I used to.
3. PMS almost non-existent - I was a raging BITCH 2-3 weeks a month, got into lots of stupid fights over insignificant things w/hubby, got customer complaints and write ups at work, but not since starting Lex.
4. I lost 10lbs! Needed to come off as I was overweight.
5. Depression - in check, do not wake in the morning and think about calling in first thing. I can get up and go to work without extreme effort.I would say that's pretty good!!!~~~8|8

Thanks Mariposa! I swear I have spent at least ten hours looking for the positive. I am glad I checked in again here. Stay happy!
