Zyprexa and Wellbutrin

Posted by musico on November 13, 2005, at 9:15:44

Has anyone any information about using the two together? My pdoc said that the interaction is not good. I have researched and find no studies. Thank you in advance for your time.

I forgot to mention the reason that I want to know is that I am having anorgasmia with Zoloft. I've tried Wellbutrin in the past and WOW it is an aphrodisiac for me! I have Bipolar.

hi! I haven't seen any studies on Wellbutrin plus Zyprexa but...who knows. Your doc may have experience, there may be case studies, etc. etc. Anyway, what about Provigil? It could help counter the sedation from the zyprexa and help a little with depression. Adding BuSpar might also help.

I did a quick check using a number of different drug interaction checkers online, and none saw any interactions between Wellbutrin and Zyprexa. Your doctor may know something we don't, but whatever that is isn't in the online checkers yet.

I hope that helps.

I've done tons of researching on wellbutrin and zyprexa and I've never seen anything about them not mixing well.

I would think they would be a good combination. What is the zyprexa for? And you mentioned this combo worked for you so why the switch? Fondly, Phillipa

Thank you for all of your responses. I tried Wellbutrin on it's own, for depression a couple of years back, before I was diagnosed with Bipolar quite recently. I will ask my pdoc what the issue is with Wellbutrin next time I see her. I was just curious to see if anyone on this fantastic site had heard of an issue with this combo. Thanks again!

hey! Your doc may have a problem with wellbutrin+zyprexa since wellbutrin has a tendency to be more "activating," while zyprexa is an antipsychotic, and tends to be more calming. Also, since they both lower the seizure threshold, it seems like wellbutrin+zyprexa could cause more seizures than, say, zyprexa+prozac (aka: symbyax).

i'm on z and w, works good for me. (nm)
