you should just admit that you are anti-medication and that L Ron Hubbard sent you :). Seriously, though, this is a board of PATIENTS not Dr's. This site can be helpful but I also think there is a danger of obsessing big time and getting upset by not so scientific input. I admit yes I was upset and that's why I responded as I have but I do feel it needed to be said.

Huh?

Search the archives. Linkadge has been here for a long time. For instance:

Personally, I am rather anti-medication. I have no problem with others taking it, I just don't think it has done me any good.

(I hope you don't mind me posting the above Link!)

What makes you feel that I am antipsychiatry? If I post qestioning about the possibility that SSRI's induce corkscrew receptors it is because I am scared sensless by the study and the prospect.

I am suffering some seemingly permanant side effects from SSRI use, and so I am really just sensitive to those sorts of studies.

I am not a doctor, wish I was, then I might self prescribe something that works!

Yeah, I wish you were too.....I'd go to you ; ), Scott, Larry, etc....people who know their stuff, would listen, and have some compassion for others. Good thing I like my pdoc.

Sorry, I have been here a while, but I don't know how to acess that post.

Yes, I am suffering some seemingly permanant sexual side effects. I was just beginning to develop in that regard when I was put on the drugs. I have little to no sensation downstairs, even after a year off them

But, as problematic as that is, I am acutally more concerned with my movement and ballence problems. Stiff movement, pushing and spinning sensations, feeling as if my head is being twisted to the left, difficulty writing etc. All of these mvt problems seem to go away within a few hours of taking an SSRI !(any one will do)

It is as if those last stages of my motion development molded itself around the presence of an SSRI.

Lots of people say the same things though, about the damage that can be done from drugs. This is a medication board. It comes up all the time, on and off, scientology or not.

Yikes, I'm sorry to hear that. ssris may seem to be safe, but in my opinion, they are overprescribed and are far more risky than they're generally perceived to be. I'm not anti-psychiatry, but I got burned BIG TIME by psychotropics. They can help, and they can destroy. Meddling with such a poorly understood entity as the brain, probably the most complicated object known to man, is bound to have disastrous consequences.

If anyone is interested, there is a website dealing exclusively with post-ssri sexual dysfunction.

I don't think Link antimed he has just suffered a lot of long lasting side effects from taking them. I have taken all the SSRI's and yes I have stayed on them more then the 8-l2 week trials. I was on Paxil for over 2 years. And when I went off it my thyroid TSH went to over 22 neccesitating my first hospitalization. The anxiety was horrible. Love Phillipa

I'm with link and some of the others who suffered from SSRI's and I'm not anti psychiatriatry either, I still see my pdoc but people aren't obsessing here, they are just expressing what happened to them personally from taking these drugs and the terrible effects that they had on them. More medical research needs to be done and made available to the public so people can make more a more informed opinion before they head down the AD path. It's not a bed of roses for everyone and some people need to know that this could quite possibly happen to them too. There is always risks involved with psychiatric drugs and not always good ones with long lasting nasty side effects that the general public should be aware of. I feel that just needed to be said too, there is always 2 sides to every story, Paul
