Does Abilify make cigarettes taste bad?

Posted by flipfloppy on August 31, 2006, at 3:31:49

On the second day of taking Abilify (2.5 mg) I noticed that cigarettes tasted bad, just like what happened when I was on Zyban/bupropion. Is this what cigarettes actually taste like? Maybe the reward effects of nicotine tricks you into feeling that it taste good... Anyway, today I don't feel any need to smoke cigarettes anymore (yet.)

Oh never mind, I'm imagining things

Its possable. Abilify potently blocks the dopamine D3 receptors. Nicotine directly affects this receptor to mediate the feelings of reward and pleasure. Its is possable that the drug is blocking the peasure of cigarettes which is (like you said) perhaps having you taste the cigarettes in a new light. Like removing the sweetness from honey might make it not taste so good.

Abilify made me so emotionally flat that I was bored beyond belief. I didn't know what else to do but sit outside and smoke cigarettes. As far as the taste I didnt notice any change.
