Mixed state BP - on lexapro and lithium (just increased dose)
I have had severe anxiety over the past 3 days with obsessional thinking/ruminating upon changing topics. Feel confused, depressed and thinking too much.
My pdoc has prescribed Olanzepine just 2.5-5mg to help me sleep and to help with anxiety and agitation during the day.
Has anyone got any good experiences with this? Has it helped slow down their thinking or stop obsessing.
I really need to hear good stuff at the moment. I feel so desperate, hopeless and scared.

Yes. Zyprexa is very effective for all the symptoms you are experiencing. Very effective.
But you should be aware that higher dosages (more than what you are taking) can cause diabetes, so be on the look out. Also weight gain is a sure thing. I know you wanted to hear the positives, but the negatives are important to know as well.
I really hope the Zyprexa helps. You should find relief quickly.

It does work and it worked very well for me in the short to medium term. Whether you wish to take it long term is up to you but you might find withdrawal difficult at that stage. My experience was that it worked brilliantly to start off with but faded a bit after about a year I think, and I had to increase the dose from 2.5 mg to 5 mg. But you are looking for a short term solution I think and I think it will deliver impressive results. You can start thinking about long term strategy when you are feeling better.
I am sorry if my tales of withdrawal difficulty have caused you concern. I should have been more careful. I should also have been more careful when I continued the Zyprexa past the point that it was helping me. If I had discontinued it at that point I would not be in the predicament that I find myself in now. (withdrawal difficulties)
I think Zyprexa will be very useful to you but I would not hang on to it past the point where it is no longer 50% effective.
I hope it works for you and makes you well again.
Good luck. Let us know how you get on with it.

And another thing...
Zyprexa did not cause me weight gain or trouble with blood sugar.
Sleep - you should experience immediate long-lasting and refreshing sleep. I did. I am a male in my mid-fifties. I do not know if that makes any difference.

I am taking it short term only until the lithium kicks in as I have only been taking it for two weeks and only increased it today.
I usually take temazepam to sleep but my pdoc thinks that I will benefit from the Zyprexa to help with the over thinking aspect during the day.
I long to feel normal again.

It will probably work very well. I found that even though its halflife is long enough, the best effects didn't last a whole day. I found twice a day dosing better. I would suggest starting with 2.5mg and cut it in half. Take 1.25mg in the morning and 1.25mg in late afternoon. Resist the temptation to increase dose. If you must, resist the temptation to stay on it for years. Just my experience with it anyway.

Hi blueberry1
Have you been syndicated? I don't remember seeing the 1 before. Is there a #2 on the way :-) ?
I started Zyprexa to deal with my insomnia. I have always taken it at night at about 9.30 pm. But saying this it does take me a long time to get to sleep. Maybe I should take it earlier? I go to bed about 10.45 and get to sleep at an estimated 11.30 pm. Would taking it earlier make me fall asleep sooner?

i was on a higher dose of 10 of zyprexa but it was the ONLY thing that really worked well for me.
my GP put me on it and it seemed to work, then i went to a pdoc and he took me off it, different pdoc later and MANY drugs later i was put back on zyprexa and stabilized.
even though all the negative things i've heard about it, i would go back on it in a heartbeat cuz i knew it would stop all the 'nasties' that were going on in my head.the first time i was on it i didn't gain any weight, the next time i did, about 45lbs, but no diabetes or sugar level issues. and if i would have watched the eating better i wouldn't have gained so much.
i'm not sure about ronaldo's bad withdrawl experience, he seemed to have been on it much longer than i. i was on it about two years when i went off and my pdoc tapered me off and i had no problems (went off all meds due to pregnancy).
so i think too be more cautious if you will be on it for longer period of time.but again, it worked wonders for me. i wish you the same.

I've been taking zyprexa for 9 years, and it is the best med I've ever taken. It cures every symptom you mentioned. Great for sleep, anxiety. Its very strong so you will definitly notice the difference with those doses.
Things to watch out for. eating too much, diabeties. Thats the only thing wrong with it. Once again those are small doses.

Hi Phillipa,
Do you think there could be a spy trying to steal blueberry's identity? I hope blueberry is safe and not languishing in a dark and dismal dungeon deep under the ground...
It makes me feel uneasy. I prefer the old blueberry sans 1. What do you say?

I took a quarter of a wafer (2.5mg) last nigh. It took about an hour before I noticed that I was very sleepy - couldnt stay awake.
I also slept in this morning.
Nice to have a decent sleep
I am still anxious this am but only in a minor way. My thinking is slower.
Thanks for all your posts.

Ronaldo, I have experimented with dosing times for zyprexa and I found I like 4pm the best. It takes 2 hours to kick in. So by 6pm I am feeling the relaxation. Then I can naturally get sleepy as the evening progresses. Since I have to get up early I usually go to be between 8pm and 9pm and fall right to sleep. If I take zyprexa later than 4pm, I get sleepy later, and I wake up more groggy. It's a tricky balance.
For some strange reason when I would try to post I kept getting a message saying my password was incorrect. After trying all kinds of things and trying to update registration and everything, it wasn't working. I had to register from scratch like the first time. I made it simple and just put a 1 after blueberry.
This is the end of the thread.
