Schziophrenia

Posted by alienatari on February 12, 2007, at 5:16:54

Im pretty crazy lol. But i dont know. I hear voices, im very paranoid and halucinate. Im so stressed out. Paranoia is my main problem I would presume. Haloperidol is not cutting it and is driving me crazy. Psychatrist wants me to go on Clozapine but that involves me going into hospital and getting a new psychatrist becaue my pdoc doesnt have hospital privlidges. Id prefer to find a different antipsychotic. Anyway, am I Schizophrenic? Im so confused. My pdoc has never said I was schizophrenic. I might ask him I guess.
Any schizophrenics on the board? I'd love to talk to some poeple with paranoid schizophrenia or any type of schizo.

Thanks for all the support and take care

Chris

maybe if you have been diagnosed bipolar, it is seen as secondary to that diagnosis, despite a perhaps non-existent mood-state? as in schizoaffective, but doesn't meet some certain criteria for this diagnosis to your doctor?

a lot of docs are wisely moving away from "schizophrenia"--its stigmatising and not particularly precise, so docs are more likely to focus on other components (mood, anxiety, stress levels) than they were in the past. Beware of docs who jump to diagnose schizophrenia: they should not be trusted.

If Haldol isn't cutting the paranoia, you may want to try a different approach--maybe you have high cortisol, or something like that. Plus, some people with psychosis just don't respond to neuroleptics very well, or some of their core symptoms are left unresolved. Have you tried talk therapy? Voices suck--I've had them before--but you might be better off learning coping strategies than trying to drug the voices out of existence. Again--try to get some bloodwork done, especially cortisol levels and the like. Could you try vitamins or an orthomolecular approach? Since drugs aren't working, you might as well try orthomolecular approaches--combinations of meds+vitamins. Good luck!

If I qualified for a diagnosis of schizophrenia I would only take the drugs for it that offered me significant relief.

Diagnoses of schizophrenia can be really suss, though this is certainly no comment on yours, Alien.
In the 70s heaps of people who were bipolar were treated as schizophrenic (whatever it is) and I knew a couple who died through that.
There were no mood stabilizers back then??

I would be pragmatic and empirical with drug treatment. Does it help? There's a limit to the help you can expect from it in any case.

I stayed stable in my brothers car even though i didth think iwas in my body, i still talked fine, but it was wierd!

No slit personalites, even thought i wish i did to deal with life with diffrent people.

Schizophrenia is more about hearing voices, reacting to those voices, paranoia, catatonic reactions, movement stereotypy (such as shuffling) than the movie stereotype of multiple personalities. But I leave it to those who experience it to tell it as it is.

What you describe looks like panic attacks. They may give you these sensations of not belonging to you body or not being able to keep equilibrated on your feet.

Your xanax should be very good at stopping such panic (anxiety) attacks. Did you mention such feelings to your doc?

I'm schitzoaffective. I hear voices, and abilify helps my mind clearify it, it takes away parinoia.
