I think it is interesting that certain 5-ht antagonists display antidepressant effects.
For instance, not only does 5-ht2a/c blockade appear to enhance AD effect and/or produce AD effect on its own, so does blockade of other 5-ht receptors such as 5-ht3, 5-ht6, 5-ht7 etc.
With blockade of so many different 5-ht receptors being able to produce AD effect, one wonders how much of the SSRI action is actually counteracting itself.
The 5-ht system is very complex.

Very interesting! .. I think it may explain -- in part -- how Tianeptine works. Chromium which helps for atypical depression desensitize 5-HT(2A).Even if the Serotonin theory of depression is aging very badly I think we'll see some more interesting, more sophiticated, serotonic meds in the future.
Speaking of 5-HT receptors.. about the ADs sexual side effect .. I never heard anyone or read anything proposing Methysergide as a potential antidote. It seems to me that it could be much better than the weak and very sedative Cyproheptadine. Wikipedia report that the maker doesn't make it anymore while keepting the name in his product list... that could explain why. In another news: Methysergide in dose higher than 4mg produce the same effects as LSD, a fact which may discourage any MD to prescribe it to someone with any mental disorder.
Any thoughts ?
