I don't know how I remembered this, but I started Nardil many years ago on this day 2 December- about 10.45am:)!
Nardil is still working a treat- I just have to take my doses at the same time every day, and retain my dose of 75mg
What else can I say?!
You all are great, and Nardil rules!!!
Ace!

The last post is a little bit silly. We are all different. Some people on Nardil will eat cheese, drink red wine, drink a lot of coffee, without any problems. Others will just do an hypersensitive crisis when they take a look (without eating it) at a piece of blue cheese.
Like someone else said before, when you take Nardil, you have to be responsable...Yes, the side effects can maybe more dangerous, but if you eat foods on the list to avoid and take a medecines that cause some interractions, that's your responsability...
Anyway, i'm very pround of you ACE ;-) 12 years...that something... I really happy to see that someone here is doing well on Nardil for such a long time!!! I hope the good effects will continue for you !!!
I'm just at 30mg/day, after 1 week on NArdil and I feel really tired and more anxious, with insomnia problem at night...That's weird...my first experience at 90mg/day for 2 months back in 2007. leave me with a big problem of hypotension...and I take the worst decision of my life, and I quit cold turkey the Nardil...but this time I will take it more longer, and ask for a pills to help with my hypotension ( I do my wishing list of pills I need for my nexst appointment), antidote for an "evantual" hypercrisis" and Trazodone to help me to sleep, just for the time I will up my dosage to 90 mg...With a little bit of luck, I will feel more well in 3 months or so...Maybe I will ask after for something to help with my mood...like Lamictal...just to prevent up and down...you know, feeling good one day, and like sh*t the day after, even if you are not again in a depression...and aparently, a mood stabiliser help to amplify the antidepressants effect and make it more stable...I will see...
So again , happy anniversary! ;-)

There was a time when I thought that perhaps you were chasing a hypomanic high. I was concerned about you, as I know some other posters were. I had hoped that you would reach a point of stability as you played with your Nardil dosage. I was concerned about you. If one never produces a homeostasis of the ingestion of medication, how can the brain possibly operate in a state of homeostasis?
In any event, I am very happy that you have reached your stable place. It doesn't matter to me if you are on a perpetual hypomanic high or not. Attaining remission is often elusive, as the stories on Psycho-Babble will attest to. Your persistence has paid off. Some desperately ill people will find solace and hope in your success story. Whatever you are doing is working, and I continue to hope that your successful treatment of such a hideous illness is indefinite.

I'm mainly taking it for SA. I was wondering, did you ever or are you currently, taking any agumentations? If so which ones, and how did they help?If not, either way, it's nice to see someone in remission for 2 years.
congrats man.

> Heh i actually remembered earlier today that this friday will be the 1 year aniversary of nardil putting me in hospital with a severe blood pressure drop.
In my whole time, I have been admitted to hospital with severe hypertension on 2, or 3 ocassions. Another time was due to a possible serotonin syndrome which was induced by Taking Clomipramine 10 days after ceasing Nardil.
I have been very fortunate, in that I totally ignore all contraindications (in terms of food) and am very liberal in polypharmacy despite the warnings of such with concomitant nardil administration.
BUT I CERTAINLY DON'T RECOMMEND THIS!!!!!
We are all different......
But I do urge people, that if they do have a hypertensive crises, or suffer a bad Nardil s/effect, please try and hold on.....You never know what is around the corner in life!

Others will just do an hypersensitive crisis when they take a look (without eating it) at a piece of blue cheese. From what I have seen in the literature, I would have to, for the greater part, agree with you here.
> Like someone else said before, when you take Nardil, you have to be responsable...Yes, the side effects can maybe more dangerous, but if you eat foods on the list to avoid and take a medecines that cause some interractions, that's your responsability...
This is true. I am very remiss with the diet, because I know from experience that I am fortunate enough to not be so predisposed to Nardil's s/effects with regards to contraindications. However, If i do indeed suffer a hypertensive crises, I take full responsibility- something which I have told me doctor on numerous occassions. But please- anyone reading- I stress again great caution. In the initial stages I followed the diet 110%, and was very vigilant to anything that entered my bloodstream. I would certainly urge this behaviour.
And I do admit I could sound very hypocritical here, or be so!!
>
> Anyway, i'm very pround of you ACE ;-) 12 years...that something... I really happy to see that someone here is doing well on Nardil for such a long time!!! I hope the good effects will continue for you !!!Thankyou so very very much. Nardil, as I have stated so many times, turned my life from pure agony, towards a state of mild euphoria. It made me function! Before I couldn't leave my house, unless I had 2 bottles of Xanax with me, and even then I was extremely scared...I was katotonically depressed for 3 months before starting Nardil. When nardil kicked in, life just become so special...so hard to describe. I felt more empathy, love, enjoyment....I LOVED everything- even washing dirty clothes. Now I am doing great- not too long and I will be a fully fledged shrink! And I couldn't have got through my undergraduate years without Nardil...(med is postgrad in Sydney, Australia)
You ALL deserve the same relief....so hang in their.....even when your pain tells you that you just want to vanish....
> I'm just at 30mg/day, after 1 week on NArdil and I feel really tired and more anxious, with insomnia problem at night...I can relate!!! Nardil initially did make me anxious! Very tired....but I slept a lot....no insomnia ever....Parnate- a different story!
That's weird...my first experience at 90mg/day for 2 months back in 2007. leave me with a big problem of hypotension...and I take the worst decision of my life, and I quit cold turkey the Nardil...but this time I will take it more longer, and ask for a pills to help with my hypotension ( I do my wishing list of pills I need for my nexst appointment), antidote for an "evantual" hypercrisis" and Trazodone to help me to sleep, just for the time I will up my dosage to 90 mg...With a little bit of luck, I will feel more well in 3 months or so...Maybe I will ask after for something to help with my mood...like Lamictal...just to prevent up and down...you know, feeling good one day, and like sh*t the day after, even if you are not again in a depression...and aparently, a mood stabiliser help to amplify the antidepressants effect and make it more stable...I will see...
I would personally avoid too much polypharmacy in the early stage of Nardil therapy. That being said, if things get really hard, it's easier said than done! I think benzos are fine, but with certain drugs I would stress caution. Nardil, needs a 'clean' entrance into your body, as such.....MAOI's usually take longer than the other drugs....sometimes up to 9 weeks.....they have a lot of work to do, but please please be patient....If s/effects pose a problem- and are extreme, I would lowere temporarily...I always advise 4 weeks at 60mg.....then consider upping...
God bless you, i wish you the best of success!

> There was a time when I thought that perhaps you were chasing a hypomanic high.Hi Scott....that was certainly true, without doubt. I was not content with feeling happy- I got greedy and wanted a perpetual state of euphoria- which is not health me thinks! I used a lot of agents to gain this....but, at this point in my life, I think I should be grateful to be just happy and motivated!
I was concerned about you, as I know some other posters were.
I understand- and I do appreciate your concern.I have always been a very 'colourful', expressive person...Nardil really did bring this out greatly! I look back at some old posts and think "boy, Andrew, you were VERY euphoric!"
I was a little over the top, ha ha! But i was not ever taking any illicit substances or drinking. It's just that Nardil and myself, really 'hit it off'!I had hoped that you would reach a point of stability as you played with your Nardil dosage. I was concerned about you.
Thanks again. i think that point of stabitlity has been reached now certainly. I think feeling happy, being able to be unrestricted in my movements due to psychopathology, having a constant motivation....I think this is a blessing I have recieved.
If one never produces a homeostasis of the ingestion of medication, how can the brain possibly operate in a state of homeostasis?
That's a very good point- and very well put, although I do wish we could find the aetiology of the homeostatic state. My feeling still, is that is different from person to person, thus making clinical investigations extremely hard....
> In any event, I am very happy that you have reached your stable place. It doesn't matter to me if you are on a perpetual hypomanic high or not. Thankyou once again so much. I certainly hope people do find hope in my story. I really really feel terrible when i here how people are suffering. Mental Illness, I feel, is a most tormenting illness- not just because of the actual pain, but the intangible nature of it, and, I know their is still great stigma (at least in Australia) towards it.Like I have stated- before I touched Nardil I can't express in words the agony I suffered so much since a young child- Goodness knows, so many of you have experienced the same.
But just hang on......always hang on......'miracles' can happen I feel....and our pain can be our fuel for strength...
Let me know how you are Scott, and God Bless you all...
I have got to get to an appointement right now, but will certainly answer all the kind messages sent to me.....
Peace!

also new to nardil.
Good choice!
been on it for about 13 weeks. What are you taking it for?
I take Nardil for the following...
1. Clinical Depression- Nardil totally eliminated this.
2. Deprsonalization Sydndrome with Phobic anxiety (very close to Panic Disorder symptomatology) and with agrophobia- Nardil GREATLY helped this - with the help of low dose Xanax it was eliminated.
3. Social Phobia/Anxiety- Nardil completed cured me of this.
4. OCD- Nardil Greatly helped- with an atypical AP the OCD is reduced by 90-95%
> I'm mainly taking it for SA.at what dose?
I was wondering, did you ever or are you currently, taking any agumentations? If so which ones, and how did they help?
Yes- Xanax for my DP syndrome/anxiety, and Seroquel for OCD. They are both at very low doses and greatly help.

I'm on Parnate and its going well, not quite there yet, but soon. Amazing drugs, these MAOI's!!
They are....I've read the trials, the anecdotes, etc etc for years and years. NEVER have I found a class of drug to come close to the MAOI's. With the Parnate, I would advice to always remember dose and duration! They do take time and much higher doses than SSRI's. (Actually the SSRI's are prescribed too high too fast, whereas TCA's and MAOI's are precribed far too low at too slower pace!)

Greetings from Brisbane. Today is my third day back on Parnate. I was on it all too briefly five years ago, but stopped after a hypertensive crisis. For most of the past decade I've been functioning poorly on SSRIs. Clomipramine has been the best drug for me so far - let's see if Parnate can top it! You're on 75 mg/d of Nardil? I'm fully prepared to go to 100 mg/d of Parnate if necessary. Sounds like you'll make a fine, empathetic psychiatrist - all the best mate!

Because I had a crisis last week...at only 30 mg of Nardil...I eat soup made with "Bovril" chicken flavor inside and I was not aware of this. Since my mom always make her own chicken broth,. I don't ask her about what was inside the soup...I'm lucky because I have my own blood pressure machine...so the big headache was my blood pressure, maybe 1 hour after I eat the soup...My blood pressure stay up for 3 hours minimum...220/110...It was not fun at all... I ask for the Antidote yesterday and I get it, just in case...if I have the same reaction soon, I take 5 mg of Nifedipine and if I don't feel more well a couple of minutes after I have the time to go to the hospital...I call that prevention...I can't always ask what is inside what I eat, especially at the restaurant. Trying to avoid everything on the food to avoid list is hard to manage... But I know that I never eat something that I don'T know what is made off now...even if it's made by my MOM! ;-)

I agree that it can be difficult to know everything that's inside what we eat. Still, I made my family aware of my dietary needs, and periodically remind them before I visit. In restaraunts, I give them a card listing the restricted items and ask them to check with the chef before placing my order. This works out very well for me, though sometimes others with me are curious about it.
