A long time ago we talked about the magic or happy pill did anyone find it? Will anyone ever find it or is it our lives, personalities or other? Phillipa

You know my story, Phillipa.
I found it and then lost it....
But it's better to have loved and lost that never to have loved at all- right? :)

> I found it and then lost it....
> But it's better to have loved and lost that never to have loved at all- right? :)A long, long time ago, I was seeing a doctor who found it for me. I was 100% improved and in remission for the better part of a year. Then, this same doctor made some treatment changes, and he subsequently lost it for me. I could never find it again, not even when using the same drug combination that got me well the first time. I would say that this is an example of treatment-induced treatment refractoriness. That's a fancy way of saying that one can become resistant to responding to a particular drug once it is discontinued and later restarted. I also think that my having been ill continuously over the course of decades has produced a tendency towards treatment resistance. Perhaps advancing age contributes to this as well.

Exact same thing happened to me but it was first depression and stopped the med after two years with benzos very low dose on board. Continued this way until stupid thyroid acted up and the pdoc switched to another ad almost forgot I'd gone back on the paxil l0 and still worked. But the second time off that was it. Phillipa. ps you have the same doc I had? As the one I hopefully will have back again says " if it ain't broke don't fix it". Why did yours change yours?

Magic Pill?
An effective medication, for example, is an older MAOI drug or a cerebral stimulant such as Adderall, Dexedrine, or Desoxyn (last resort).
The mental health community, however, is too afraid to prescribe them for refractory mental health disorders. Is it treatment-resistant depression or something else?
Too many patients run in circles trying to find the right medication, or combinations thereof, which work for them. Is it worth it?

> Too many patients run in circles trying to find the right medication, or combinations thereof, which work for them. Is it worth it?It is very frustrating and sometimes one does wonder if it's worth it at all. It happens to me all the time.
But then, what's the alternative option?

Stick to what works. There's no need for endless trial and error. If you know a doctor is wasting your time, you know what you have to do.

Nothing works so that's why the endless trials and errors go on. :(

I'm sorry nothing works. If this is the case then you need to look beyond mental health. Do you have a regular physician, aka a PCP?
You deserve a refund for money wasted in mental health care!!

> I'm sorry nothing works.
It did but then I developed a really bad side effect to it and had to give it up. So I'm back to searching for an alternative.
>Do you have a regular physician, aka a PCP?
I'm going to see a new one in an hour. To discuss the excessive fatigue part anyway. Although I have been checked for most things already, over the years
> You deserve a refund for money wasted in mental health care!!
LOL, that would be REALLY nice! :)
