Clomipramine and me

Posted by Justherself54 on June 5, 2010, at 11:57:44

I've increased my dosage to 150 mg. about a week ago. I'll be having blood work done on Tuesday to measure my levels.

I know when I did increases to 75 and 100 mgs. I had a couple of days of increased fatigue but it seemed to level out. With this increase I've remained very tired and quite irritable. The irritability could be due to the fact I have a friend staying with me, who constantly on the go. I've explained that when I am doing a med change or increase, I try to keep myself and my surroundings as quiet as possible. I know she's going through a rough time herself but I'm finding myself having to bite my tongue frequently.

One thing I find is that I'm sleeping very deeply (no complaints about that), but I'm wondering if the clomipramine is increasing the effects of the .5 clonazapam and 7.5 zopiclone I take a bedtime.

Does anyone know if clomipramine can enhance the effects of these two meds? I'm wondering if I even need them anymore, but as I have been taking them for years I'm not sure how to discontinue them, and if I would experience some withdrawals. If I would experience withdrawals, I think I would rather wait until I've adjusted more to the increase of clomipramine.

I still feel pretty unmotivated, but I'm not sure if it's due to the fatigue I'm feeling or my depressive state.

Coccyx pain is still managed very well by the clomipramine. Side effects are extreme dry mouth and a bit if dizziness when I stand up too quickly. This is a drug that feels very different to me from SSRI's. I don't know quite how to explain it, but so far it just feels better. I think I'm about 50 to 60% better that I was before I started it. I wonder if it can get me to 100%.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Wow that's fabulous. Sorry the friend is kind of not understanding. But sounds like you have found a real winner for you. So glad for you. It's funny how some meds come back into vogue. I wonder how they go out other than the release of a a new med. And the good thing is you can chart your progress through the blood levels. And great sleep sure can't beat that. As for the withdrawal I've leave to experts. Me I'd chop a bit off each night. Love Phillipa

Good to hear about your improvement. Sorry I can't offer input--just support.

You really might not need the klonipin and sonata. Taper one or the other--my guess is sonata.

Have you taken sonata nightly and for how long? I think ed_uk advised confusedone about sonata withdrawal.

Best to you.

(Flector patches have helped me as an adjunt. Difficult to use for coccyx pain.)

Hi FB!! Thanks for your support. I had roughly seven days after increasing clomipramine where I felt pretty depressed and sooo tired. Today, however, I have noticed a definite lift in my mood and energy. I think each time I increase it (hopefully, I will continue to feel better and better at this dosage) I will have around a week of worsening side effects, then they seem to settle down.

It's funny, when I'm depressed and look in the mirror, I have difficulty looking at my reflection. When my depression begins to lift, I begin to see "me" again..and I think I'm not too shabby for an old gal!!

Here's hoping this continues.

Clomipramine and metabolisms

Clomipramine inhibits clonazepam's breakdown, so even if you want to keep it you might want to lower your dose.

Clomipramine potentiates any sedative meds.

And it strongly inhibits the breakdown of melatonin, which will make you sleep easier and probably deeper.

It also inhibits the breakdown of caffeine quite strongly.

That also sounds like luvox. Phillipa both official for Ocd I wonder why two different classes of meds?

Thanks Brainbeard..I halved my clonazapam and zopiclone dose before bed. Hopefully, I'll still sleep well and not feel as much sedation in the morning.

Luvox inhibits 1A2 enzymes, (in part) responsible for breaking down caffeine, melatonin, and several meds, even stronger than clomipramine. Why Luvox was only approved for OCD in the States.. Probably because it was a European product. Luvox was synthesized long before Prozac, yet Prozac is credited as being the first SSRI..

Most welcome. (nm) » Justherself54
