I get the same newsletter. Mostly don't read it as too much on one page. Phillipa

I worked in the journalism field for 13 years, with 12 of those years in management, so I understand that the service that PsychTimes provides - informative articles on various aspects of mental health - comes at a price, in the form of advertising. Being a niche publication, it's potential advertisers are much fewer than, say, The New York Times. At the same time, it is frustrating to see how aggressively Big Pharma targets the mentally ill (as well as folks who are simply a little down), especially when compared with other medical issues. Probably 90 percent of ads on TV marketing medications are pitching antidepressants. Haven't seen any ads for insulin. It does have a vultures-circling-overhead vibe to it...

not just psych drugs. i don't really watch tv. but, i would bet that cholesterol, sexual ed, diabetes, arthritis, etc. meds outnumber psych med ads overall. just a hunch.
maybe it's because we are more hyper-aware. i never paid attention to the viagara or cialis ads until i hit my late 40's. now, i swear they are all geared towards me. lol. they seem to be on all the f*ck*ng time it seems! and, like i said i rarely watch tv. geez.
on a positive note; in some ways i think theses ads MAY take some of the stigma away for some conditions, including ours.
finally, we are one of the few countries that allow med ads on tv. i know this thread mentioned print ads, but i thought i'd chime-in about the tv stuff.
curious what others think.

HA! I gotta have it doc!!I just painted the Seroquel logo on my car! They are giving me a $50 coupon off of my next $600 prescription.
Every time I'd go to my psychiatrist I used grab pens, pads of paper and anything else they had lying around. It wasn't stealing, I paid for it. I ended up with so much stuff. I'd take them to work and everyone eventually ended up with Thorazine pens, Paxil pens, Effexor pens, Adderall pens. All my coworkers looked like they were on meds. Conversations like: Boss..Lisa have you seen my Geodon pen? Yeah, Phil had it at the counter. Phil where's my Geodon pen? Sorry PJ, I swapped with Louis for a Prozac pen to top off my SSRI collection. Phil when do you see your doctor next? Tuesday. Can you get a hold put on another Geodon pen? I'll see what I can do boss but it may cost you lunch. Wait, I'm not eating I'm on my Adderall diet again. Well Phil, I have to have my antipsychotics collection up to date and my wifes office is really digging the benzo quartet that you put together. My daughters science class thinks you are the real deal and they say just writing with Concerta pens helps them concentrate better. Wow, that's some placebo effect boss.
Well I'll catch a pretty drug rep before he/she gets inside the office and shake them down.
Lise..Where's my *Klonopin pen* haha, pin pen. I need it now the withdrawal...Here you go Lise, 42 K pens. Consider yourself dependent.Sorry herpills, stuff like this just comes out sometimes but I finally have a new topic for my blog...clickbipolarblog, brought to you by "Seroquel XR, we put the 'S's' in psychosis."

Atypical features, depression dominated mixed in with some anxiety. Seasonal swings with energy level changes. Lamictal 225mg. Effexor 225mg. Klonopin 1 mg as needed at bedtime. Summer months I can decrease Effexor to 150mg. Have been on drugs for 23 yrs after son was born.
