nortriptyline - microwaking

Posted by linkadge on January 30, 2018, at 16:45:52

I switched from mirtazapine to nortriptyline about year ago.

I am not finding nortriptyline as beneficial for sleep. Last night, for example, it seems like I woke up no less than 30 times.

I was able to fall back asleep quickly, but the effect is taking its toll.

I'm going to see if I can switch back to mirtazapine.

I thought you were being helped by nortriptyline.

Why not just add a small amount of mirtazapine to the nortriptyline to act as a sleep aid rather than make a switch?

I wanted to switch from mirtazapine to nortriptyline primarily as I thought it may help me with sleep, with less collateral effect on next day energy.

The problem is that the nortriptyline doesn't appear near as effective for sleep. My sleep onset is worse, maintainance is worse and I still get early morning wakenings.

I'm just finding it too stimulating.

I've never found nortriptyline to be sedating. It's not like amitriptyline.

I thought nortriptyline was helping for depression. That's why I suggested the combination. Just throwing it out there... Higher dosages of mirtazapine and nortriptyline may work synergistically to increase NE along with the 5-HT2a/c and 5-HT3 receptor blockade.

Perhaps you can make the switch from nortriptyline to mirtazapine first and evaluate your level of deepression. If you see that your depression gets worse, you might then restart nortriptyline and reevaluate depression and sleep continuity.

I see. I overlooked this.

I have to ask. In what ways is nortriptyline too stimulating? Is it just sleep, or does it also affect you negatively during the day?

Yeah, its not a clear effect.

It's initially making me tired, but then I wake up frequently throughout the night. It seems to be disrupting the continuity.
