Simple question on fish oil

Have any significant studies been done comparing the efficacy of EPA/DHA treatment to SSRIs?

I don't think so. It would be interesting, of course. But who would fund it? I'm sure people are wondering what would occur, but until the money is there, we most only guess.

I think on studies of rats, fish oil increases serotonin production. Does this apply to humans? Probably... but how do it compare to SSRI's?... I have no idea.

Well, I can attest to the fact that SSRI's did not work on my depression. It made me very cold and uncaring. It did wonders for my panic and anxiety.
Fish oil, on the other hand, has lessened my depression to where it is completely bearable, but does nothing for panic and insomnia. BTW, I take 1800mg a day: 1080mg of EPA and 720 of DHA
Just my observations, for whatever they're worth.

you might get ever better results w/fish oil that

i use kirunal or metabloic maintenance, available through emerson ecologics or a practicioner

there are more brands with this ratio coming to market now, check the web

Hey, I did a combination of fish oil and low dose antiphschotic tha worked very well.

The antipsychotic helped the panic, and the omega 3 did lots for the depression..

I control my bipolar with fish oil, and my panic and anxiety with magnesium. I also take extra B vitamins, a standard B-50 formula and just niacin by itself, but I think the magnesium is pretty much handling the anxiety by itself. I take 3 300mg pills a day, Bronson Magnesium Complex. I've read about people taking as much as 11 grams, but when your body gets too much magnesium, it gives you diarrhea, and I'm doing fine at my current level.

What kind of Magnesium do you take (citrate, glutinate, etc?) Also, how long has this combo been working for you?
I'm at my wits end as far as natural supplements go. Fish oil works for me, I take 1800 mgs a day. But, boy, If I miss one dose... down I go. It also does nothing for my panic and lack of ability to sleep. My next try is to add Magnesium.
Sounds like you've got a good combo going and I hope it continues to work for you!
