SAM-e

I've tried looking for earlier threads but google doesn't differentiate between SAM-e and "same" - can someone direct me or tell me if SAM-e was an effective A/D for you?

Yes, I have the same question. I may be about to try SAM-e for very severe depression with extreme anxiety. I am bipolar, but have spoken to Dr. Richard Brown who wrote a book about SAM-e who told me that the risk of inducing mania in my case was fairly low since I have been on tryclics that did nothing -- no mania, no help.

Would very much like to hear other people's SAM-e experiences.

You'll get some "clean" hits if you keyword S-adenosyl, or methionine.

It didn't seem to help me but I never took over 800 mg/day. I think that the effective dose is generally 1200 to 1600 mg per day. I have not heard too many success stories. Even in Richard Brown's book, if I remember correctly, Brown said that it does not work in monotherapy with most of his patients. He just thinks that it helps in combination with prescription antidepressants.

He is the only doctor that I am aware of who promotes SAM-e for depression.
