I have a few questions regarding fish oil absorption/metabolism if anyone would care to share some insight:
1. Should I avoid taking fish oil with say 2 pieces of wheat bread (thinking the fiber might inhibit absorption)?
2. Is there any benefit to splitting the dose as opposed to taking it all at once?
3. I often don't eat until noon. Will the fish oil still work if I take it on an empty stomach first thing in the morning--or would it just be metabolized for energy?
Thanks for any info.

Does fish oil contain vitamins A or D (I believe cod oil does)?

Yes, avoid taking fish oil with meals containing large amounts of fiber. By large I mean >20 grams or so. I generally take mine with whatever meal that has the largest fat content that day which is usually dinner. Yes you can take them all at once however it may upset your stomach or give you fish burps. You can split them up if it does or deal and eventually it will pass as your body upregulates the necessary enzymes needed to digest them. Regular fish oil caps should not contain Vit A or D but may contain a small amount of Vit E to help with oxidation. Typically Cod liver oil is high in both of the former. Hope this helps.

Yeah, echoing what TenMan said, I would avoid the cod liver oil supplements altogether because they contain (obviously) animal derived vitamin A (retinol?) which is toxic if you get too much of it. One of those antartic explorers died of vitamin A poisening because he ate the liver of his husky dog (eeuuooww). But obviously cod liver oil is fine as long as you don't take more than what it says on the bottle. (And you don't go about eating huskey liver!). I'm not sure how it fares on the 'screened for polluants' front through.
Kind regards
Meri.
