I am experiencing wicked insomnia lately, and am wanting to try something natural to help me sleep. I'm thinking about giving Valerian a go, and would like to hear about how others who have tried it have found it for sleep. Also, does it leave you groggy the next morning. I used to be such a morning person - popping out of bed before the alarm went off - but, in the past few years, that has changed, so I don't want to take something that is going to leave me feeling even more groggy in the morning.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I found it helped. You could try it on a Friday or Saturday night just to see how it will affect you.

I also found it to help and often had rather vivid dreams with it, but increasingly painful headaches after about 2-3 weeks of continuous use.

Thanks to both of you. I tried it last night, and it made me sleepy, but I still woke up about 3 a.m. and tossed and turned for a couple of hours. I only tried half of the recommended dose (I was using a tincture), and, although it didn't knock me out for the whole night, I have felt groggy and sleepy all day. Perhaps it is one of those things that the body just has to get use to. I'll try it again next weekend when it doesn't matter as much if I am in a fog and see how it goes.
Thanks again.

YES YES YES valarian really works.I took some that was mixed with hops and some other stuff.I actually got quite dependant on it though, and in answer to your second question, you have to have a good nites sleep in order to get up OK anyway! No groggy effects whatsoever!
