50 mg / day i'd say. I used it and find it to be highly effective around 15 mg / day, which i think is the RDA. Most people don't get 15 mg / day anyway, so it's a good amount. Interestingly, I *seem* to feel depressed when i take 50mg / day... don't know if it's coincidence or if it's real. Theoretically, it's an NMDA antagonist, and it really should have antidepressant effects, but when I get to higher doses, it doesn't work. Wonder why. Maybe it's the form of zinc... or maybe it's inhibiting iron absorption too much. No idea!

yeah, i think 15-25 mg is good. even though they sell 50 mg tablets, that much every day might start displacing other minerals in your system.

About 80% of psychiatric patients have low zinc. You may notice a sign of it if you see white marks on your nails. Tests worth doing are plasma zinc and serum copper. Those with Pyroluria have a particularly low level of zinc. Try to normalise you zinc level and you may feel better. Some people may require 50-100 mg zinc daily and a few even more than 100mg. 15mg zinc is enough for the general public. High copper in women is often a cause of depression and post-natal depression.Increasing zinc level can bring down copper level.

I find zinc very calming. Coupled with magnesium it seems to work even better. I have a life-long problem with my zinc levels it seems - I've been taking this stuff forever, and if I ditch it I notice I am more edgy. But yes, too much can make you tired. I eat lots of iron-rich foods.
I would think adding omega-3 and B6 would help even more if one is suffering from anxiety. But zinc could be the core of my supplementation.
