Just wanted to ck in to see if other bipolars have this experience. I think that I have a particularly difficult time with hypomanic symptoms in August. Is it that there is too much accummulated light affecting my system? (sort of the opposite of SAD) Everytime I try to sleep I am bombarded with racing thoughts that keep me awake, often despite the Ambien. I was doing so well for awhile not taking Ambien, now I'm back to taking it all this week. And I have such a bad attitude about sleep, as I'm going to bed I'm rolling my eyes like "sure this is going to work". Could it be that fall is coming, school is starting, etc? Could it be my period? or is it just being bipolar in August?

You're not the only night owl here. I'm not bipolar, but I've had lots of trouble sleeping for the last couple of weeks. I've resorted to taking the ativan I have left over from when I used to take it. (I don't usually take psych drugs anymore.) Lately I can't get to sleep until 3:30AM. I don't know why. I recently experienced the trauma of a friend's suicide, but I think I've dealt with it as much as I can now. There's really nothing in particular on my mind preventing me from sleeping. I'm not staying up worrying about anything. I just can't sleep. I wish you luck.

Cass, It's nice to know I'm not alone. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's suicide, I would think even if you've dealt with it well, that there would still be some lasting effects from it for awhile.
I know those 3:30 nights! And I am so tired then, I just can't get myself to sleep. I am also going off Lithium, so I don't know if that's affecting things?! The worst are the mornings that I work and have to get up. I am falling asleep on my way in to work all the time (unfortunatly some of the time I am driving!)
Good luck with your sleep problems. Keep me posted.
