I was perusing the crispy fried frozen snacks at the grocery store (oh- no- don't usually do this- just am overcome by crispy cravings this time of year), and noticed that many of the packages claimed to have "Zero Trans Fat!" I thought, well. Maybe I should go ahead...but then I noticed that most of these very boxes listed partially hydrogenated vegetable and/or soybean oil as one of their top ingredients!! Isn't this blatent false advertising? How do they get away with it?

I think they're allowed to list 0 grams trans-fat if they have less than 0.5 grams per serving. (And you know their idea of a "serving" is usually about one bite). So you ALWAYS need to read the ingredient list too. Yeah, this makes me furious too. The most amazing things have trans fat. Frozen wild salmon. Healthy, you'd think. No, has trans fat. Cecilia

I suspected some loophole like that- it's really, really misleading, though. Especially since the experts are writing that NO trans fat is ok for a healthy diet. Zero should mean zero... Good point about the serving size, too. I suppose they might manipulate the serving sizes in a way that allows them to list "zero". It almost seemed too good to be true, guess it is.
