trigger point injections?

Posted by NikkiT2 on January 3, 2007, at 9:33:22

OK, so the latest plan of action for my pain is to receive a course of trigger point injections.. basically, a local aneasthetic injected into my shoulder, elbow and wrist once a week for 4 weeks.

I don't suppose anyone else has experienced these?

Thanks,

Nikki

Came VERY close to having an epidural steroid injection but chickened out. I would go for it.

Hi Nikki,

I've had alot of these. All mine have been low back and a few trigger points on the upperback. They worked o.k. I found the epidural blocks with local anesthetic and cortisone the most helpful, although they were also the most painful. It's kind of a b*tch if they miss and go into your spinal canal. Massive spinal headache. It sounds like you shouldn't be in any danger of that with your procedure.

Are they doing any cortisone injections too? I have found the cortisone injections very helpful. Do you have alot of pain issues?

Good Luck. I would definitely do it. I know its helped me.

Regards,
happykat :)

Good luck, Nikki. If you can, keep up some accupuncture treatment to augment the anesthesia injections?

I would think that would have the best initial response. (Just said as someone who has combined accupuncture with migraine treatment - the combination has worked well for me.)

take good care!

Thanks everyone..

I'm having just the local aneasthetic, as I've had as many cortisone injections as I am allowed in elbow and wrist (apprently more than 3 in each area can cause tendon damage)
and I am continuing with accupuncture (I get reduced rates at work which is very handy!), as if nothing else, I find it very calming and useful for my mental health.

Its great to hear some positive stories.. thanks guys. My first set of injections is on the 24th, and followed weekly for a total of 4 weeks, when I'll take a 3 week break and see how they have helped. The doctor said I can continue these indefinately and that they have a very low side effect profile which is good for sensitive little old me..

I'll let you know how it goes..

Please do! I am so encouraged from what I've read about the treatment.

OK, so we had our one day of snow in London today.. but I got there OK - though everyone else was late (I had first appointment of the day).

The injections were sore, and stung.. but not overwhelmingly so, and certainly less than the botox did. I had 5 all round my shoulder area..

I was naughty though.. there is a beautiful cemetery behind the hospital, so instead of going straight home to rest like I was told, I took my camera and took some pretty pictures of the snow..
And damn, all of sudden I was in agony.. a few hours rest with a hot water bottle and pain killers has eased it, but its very sore still.. Next week I will be good and go straight home!

No idea if pain has eased yet, and doctor did say it would take 3 weeks to really know.. So will keep you updated..

Thanks for the thoughts guys

Nikki xx
