I am schizoaffective and have been seeing a psychologist (therapist) for 8 years. She is very positive, but doesn't let me delve too much into my past. Anyway, about 6 months ago I became diagnosed with panic attacks this, I did not need. Lately they have been so powerful that they have been very disabling. I am now becoming agoraphobic and feel nervous to leave the house because I am afraid that I may have another panic attack. My therapist says I have to push through these things and has given me coping strategies that I don't seem to implement very well. I do see a psychiatrist, who is also excellent. She has prescribed, among other things an SSRI, celexa for the panic attacks, but maybe I need more as I am still getting them. the one I had yesterday was so powerful, I was sure I was going to faint and could almost hear the ambulance sirens. Although I recovered from this attack in about ten minutes, it scared the heck out of me. What should happen if I had an attack like this while driving? Speaking of drving, I have been too nervous to do it. Is there anyone out there who sees a cognitive behavioral therapist and psychiatrist for panic attacks? Has the therapy worked? Please write and let me know what works for you!!!Mmerrynick

Cognitive behavior therapy worked very well for my panic attacks, which were largely caused by OCD. "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" was what my therapist used. Lots of breathing techniques. I especially liked techniques that made light of my fears. Putting them to children's music and things like that.
I was on Luvox (an SSRI) and Klonopin as well. I found Klonopin worked very well.
