2 benzos @ once

Posted by anxious and sleeples on February 8, 2004, at 16:48:26

Is it common for one to take a long-acting benzo such as Klonopin at night for help with sleep/anxiety and also take something shorter acting like ativan during the day as needed??

common? weelll...no. but if the reasons you are on 2 is because of chronic sleeplessness as well as panic attacks or daytime anxiety, then yes Dr.s sometimes do prescribe 2. i would be careful however, because klonopin IS long acting and may remain in your system for up to 24 hrs. in which case taking ativan on top is somewhat redundant. also increases the risk of dependancy.

I'm sure it's fairly common. Many people take klonopin & xanax, etc. Please don't let other posters who have issues with benzos keep you from following Dr's orders, or with treating your anxiety medically. If the medicines weren't working, that's another thing... Are they? Any major side-effects? But don't worry about whether anybody else "approves" of your regimen.

Best wishes,

Wendy
