acid users plz share ur experiences

Posted by lucy_fyrr on January 25, 2004, at 4:02:52

hi everyone.
i'd really be interested in ppl's experiences on acid. Especially those who have had any reactions long after use.
I am concerned about one of my close friends. He used acid casually about 6 months ago, taking at least 5 hits at a time. And recently, he's been hearing voices before he goes to bed, and is convinced they're real. I've heard that psychadelics may cause schizoaffective disorder, but would it be showing signs as early as half a year after use? Is there anything that could be done? The voices have been persistent for a couple of weeks, ever night, around the same time, and saying the same thing. If anyone has any comments whatsoever, it woud be appreciated.

LSD: Ah, yes the old MENTAL FLOSS!

I am an experienced acid user (50+ times over a decade). The largest amount I ever took was 6 doses, as we were doing it daily for a little while and tolerance buildup on LSD is incredibly fast (first day: 1, second day: 2, third day: 4, fourth day: forget it...) After a while, you have to eat a bunch of it to feel any effect.

I haven't done it in almost a decade, and miss it only slightly.

I'm not sure if the voices your friend is experiences is related to the acid or not. Usually, any bad effect happens soon after you take the acid (few days or so of feeling scatterbrained). As for voices, this is a new one for me, as I only had positive experiences, save for the one time I took one and it was really four (I wanted to clobber the guy that told me it was really only one hit). That was overwhelming, but ultimately it worked out OK.

Your friend should seek some psych counseling to see about these voices, it does not sound pleasant at all.

I did have one friend who went off to college and began taking it every day for about a week or two. Ultimately, he would not come out of his dorm room, and the men in white coats had to haul him off to a psych ward for a short while. He would rarely speak after that for about three months, then went back to his "normal" self. :) He is a great guy, but a bit eccentric (even before taking all the LSD).

I hope my experience helps your friend.

I haven't used Acid in over 5 years but I am paying the price now. I have "tripped" over 100 times in my life (im 23) and now I suffer with Panic/Anxiety attacks. I always feel like I am dying. I never feel good, I can't sleep easily, I am ALWAYS SICK and miserable and angry, I think the acid is a BIGG contribution to all of my problems. I do not hear voices (yet) and hope I never do.

please get your friend to a Dr. ASAP. these are not symptoms to be messed with. how old is he? any history of mental illness? you cannot be sure if this is drug related but with the span of 6 months in between, i doubt it. it is, however, a major symptom of mental distress. get him to see a dr. right away.

All of my mental problems began after I dropped acid. I took it three or four times when i was 18 and am now thirty, on Lamictal and Tegretol Retard (mood stabilisers) and Sulpiride (anti-psychotic). I could not begin to describe the mental and emotional hell that i descended into within a couple of years of taking LSD. I first began hallucinating mild geometric patterns on certain surfaces and seeing trails around moving objects. Then, after a traumatic relationship, I became very depressed and psychotic-hearing voices and believing some very paranoid delusions. I think i was scared of admitting i'd actually gone mad so i avoided doctors and, since i lived alone and had no contact with friends or family, no one noticed my deterioration for many months. It took sheer terror of what was happening to make me walk into a mental hospital. I don't want to scare you but it is essential that your friend get treatment as soon as poss. My psychiatrist told me that all mental prognoses are much better the sooner they are nipped in the bud. Whatever he has, and whatever brought it on, treatment is the way forward. I have only now reached a point where i feel my condition is being properly treated (HPPD plus bipolar with psychotic symptoms when high).
the best of luck!

thank you all a lot for sharing. Thankfully he stopped hearing that voice after a couple of days. But then again, who knows how long it'll be until something else triggers more hallucinations. I'm going to be trying to convince him to see a doctor. It's hard to convince him that it's a problem tho. He compares himself to others, and says that he's not that bad compared to them. But I'll keep trying somehow.
Thanks again for your responses.

I was diagnosed with depression when I was 17. I was given Paxil and sent on my way. I graduated from high school and went off to college in Orlando, FL (from Boston, MA), where I gratiously declined offers and suggestions for joining a sorority and managed to scope out the only guys at the dorm who smoked weed daily and dropped acid occasionally. My roommate and her boyfriend, Angel, were into ecstasy and roofies, so I was often locked out of my room so they could have sex all the time. I decided to join my new buddies in some black blotter acid, with the intention of "going crazy" so I wouldn't have to feel depressed and unworthy anymore. I was tired of listening to Dust in the Wind on my walkman; I wanted to escape. I'm 27 now, and I can't count how many times I took acid back then, but it was the better part of two years at least. I've always been a deep analytical type, so tripping was always very intense for me...I would watch Natural Born Killers and pretend I was Juliette Lewis. I surrounded myself with people who were less attractive and socially devoid so that I would feel like the queen bee. I switched over to drinking beer at 20 years old, and I did ecstasy about ten times over five years, and I can honestly say today that I am MUCH worse than I was at age 17, when I was diagnosed with depression. Two years ago, I did mushrooms, and it was awesome at first, but some time during the camping weekend/drug fest in Cocoa Beach, I let a friend inject me with Heroin. I found myself tripping hard on shrooms and dope sick at the same time. Am I scarred fromm that experience? Absolutely. Long story boring, here are my symptoms of lasting Hallucinogen impairment: Extreme sensitivity to light, sound, touch...panic/anxiety warranting Xanax three times a day...social problems...the list goes on and on. Opiate-based drugs and/or alcohol kept me sane for a couple of years, but then I got pregnant and had to cease all such activity. That was January '02, and the reality of reality is frightening. I'm plagued by confusion and accutely aware of everything going on in my body. Sometimes I feel like my eyes are bulging out of my head, and I have vivid nightmares that are hard to differentiate from reality. I'm jealous of people who can just get through every day without wondering what's wrong with them.

Some of you might argue that the other drugs are to blame, but I know how tripping changed my way of thinking, and it's hard to live life with those memories...wondering if those hallucinated thoughts were real or fabricated.

Thanks for any feedback.

Lindsay

I never had much problem with acid. The first times can be scary, but I knew what to expect, so I didn't panic. Usualy the trip was 3 hours to peak and 7 hours long. The rest took many days (probably a week) after to get back on a normal head level, where you start feeling saine. Especialy the day right after the trip is when you feel the worst, so I would smoke a lot of pot that day just to stay calm.

I did acid about 12-13 years ago when I was about 16. I was doing it about 3 nights a week and don't remember doing over 3 hits, but always got "double dipped, etc" hits. I continued this for about a year to a year and a half regularly. It would last until morning for me and I would feel horrible for a few days. Drained, sweaty, just plain gross and a horrible headache for a few days unless I took another hit of course. I was diagnosed with OCD a few years ago, but I know that is not related because I can trace the symptoms back before that. I was also diagnosed with Bipolar I recently. I can trace those symptoms back to a few years prior to the acid use. I don't think either were caused by acid use. I also used mushrooms, pot, and ex. The last time I did ecstasy was about 4 years ago. I did that for about 1 year 3-4 times a week and took anywhere from 1-3 at a time. I also took Valium when coming down. I hope that helps. Jenn

Jenn, I hear what you're saying--I can trace my depression and concentration problems and insomnia back to elementary school. I had to see "Talking Doctor George" (as per my mom) because my teacher was concerned about my daydreaming. The doc said I was too smart for second grade, that I was bored, or at least that's what my mom told everyone. Who knows what he really said. I also took a lot of acid and did ex about 15 times over the course of the five years I spent in college. I remember leaving Massachusetts to attend college in Orlando, FL. It was right after I had seen my first psychiatrist, who prescribed me Paxil. The counselor I was talking to was concerned about me leaving the state without being able to follow up with the pdoc about the meds. I never took the Paxil. My roommates snorted it. I found the only people in the dorm who smoked pot, and I got really into tripping. I wrote a letter to my counselor about how I'd tried acid, and she warned me about the danger it can do. But of course my 18-year-old tripping pals knew everything, and they insisted that was all "bull." I'm here to tell you that it's not bs--although I can trace back symptoms, those drugs multiplied what could have been a fixable, benign problem actually crippled me mentally. I know when my thoughts race and it's difficult to focus on a task, or put together an eloquent sentence half the time. It's circular logic: we feel badly, so we self-medicate with drugs, alcohol, or whatever, and it's fun for awhile--seems to take away the unpleasant feelings for the time being. But as I'm sure you've noticed, you don't exactly come out unscathed. I don't know about you, but I over-analyze everything and have trouble making small decisions, insignificant stuff like whether to take a shower or a bath. I'm 27, and my hormones and receptor sites are all out of whack. Would I feel this way if I hadn't partied through college? Maybe. But I somehow doubt it, considering all the "doors" that were opened while I was tripping. There was no filter for good and bad. It all came in, and I can't forget the horrible things I saw and felt while tripping or after a night of rolling.

Just my experience...take care, Lindsay

Hi,

I am an old time acid user. I have useed LSD over three hundred times spanning a period of about 8 years. The only effects that has stayed with me are that if I stare at a pateern, (any pattern) for a while, the patern starts to undulate and move in and out of itself. The other symtom that has stayed with me is at night when I look at lights. They have a blue green purple halo around them and the halo is very bright.

Your friend may be having some sort of reaction to the acid and may not. Tell hin to try to go to sleep with some very soft music or to use one of those sound machines using the ocean soud.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Christopher

My first experience with LSD-25 was back in 1968, when it was still "legal" for research only (remember, this was prior the Controlled Substance Act of 1970; hence, no restrictions). I was part of a study in Cambridge, MA and took it only once in a controlled environment. I remember the "trip" was a very spiritual experience for me which included visual and auditory hallucinations. There was one small period of depersonalization in the very beginning causing some emotional discomfort but this was transient ... followed by the common "kozmic laugher" ... the "tracers" ... "seeing" music and "hearing" colors, etc.

I only needed to take this chemical JUST ONCE to alter my consciousness just enough to make me aware that a separate reality did, indeed, exist. I felt at the time that this was all I needed, and still feel the same way.

The LSD-25 back then was pure and not cut with the usual crap as is done today which makes people sick. There is really no pure LSD-25 available anymore; however, the United States Government is in possession of the largest supply of ergotamine, the basic component of the drug. There was a rumor during the Vietnam insurrection that the U.S. military was going to spray the vegetation and crops of the Vietcong with the drug to disable and demobilize them, hence easier to capture. The military used Agent Orange instead.

Cheers and Greetz to all,

I hope i don't sound like a baby, but i feel a great deal of sympathy for your friend. I'm 19 and i've tripped twice. I don't recommend taking any grade of acid, everyone is different. In fact i don't recommend doing anything that alters your perception. Because everyone is different, we all play russian roulett even when drinking let alone dropping acid. It's different for me because i think life is all about taking risks.

Interesting to see the variety of experiences, some enjoyable some not. I myself have totally lost count of how much LSD I have taken over the years, it would probably number into the hundreds easily. I am not here however to go on about quantities taken! :)
As for side effects of all this 'activity', I have had few if any at all, and certainly not to the same extent as what has been described with voices etc. I have however had a friend who took just one dose of LSD and totally lost it. He was a pretty normal average guy (whatever that is) who smoked heaps of weed and drank a lot with us. All that changed after his first trip. After about an hour of taking the LSD he began to notice a pain in the front of his brain, kind of headache like. Obviously sensing things were not quite normal, he went home and infomed his mother of the situation. Naturally mother flipped out and he was rushed to the doctor. Consequences?
OK, so as a result of this he never took acid, smoked pot or got drunk ever again (to this day!) quite incredible, but just shows how different some peoples reactions can be.
I think before trying any psychoactive substance, a person needs to be very comfortable with who they are because those conceptions can be critically challenged during the course of a strong LSD trip. Magic Mushrooms are likewise very similar in the way they can reveal things to you that you had never noticed about yourself, both good and bad. If taking these sunstances in a supportive group (which I HIGHLY recommend), a lot of the risks associated with LSD can be considerably minimised. TAKE ACID WITH FRIENDS!!

I took acid by myself a few times just to see what it was like, kind of a test to see whether I could handle it. The first time was sweet, no hassles. Tried again a couple of years later, and things were not good at all. I got very depressed, tripped out on Elvira on TV and wondered where my life was at. Pretty sad, but no long term damage.! :)

To sum up, By taking LSD in a supportive environment you will greatly enhance your whole psychedelic experience, and learn positive things which help towards a greater understanding of your relationships between yourself and friends. Phew..

I can totally relate to that last post. I tried Acid for the first time about a month after I started college in '95. I was a thousand miles from home, not gelling with the sorority thing like my cousin, who had moved down the year before. It only took me a few days of boring keg parties before I managed to find the only pot smoking lazy-asses in dorm/hotel accomodations. They introduced me to Black Blotter acid, and we laughed and listened to Genotorture and smoked a carton of Camel cigarrettes. I think we threw a mattress over the railing off the top floor, just to be goofy, and we laughed our asses off. Needless to say, my first semester at UCF ended in Acedemic Probation, since I couldn't go more than two or three days without tripping.

One night I took ecstasy and didn't want my boyfriend to know, so I dropped acid too, since he approved of that (LOL). The whole night, I kept thinking I peed in my pants, even though I hadn't, and I remember trying to fall asleep, knowing that I had to choose whether or not I wanted to "come back."

I moved in with a girl named Jackie who loved to listen to Cat Stephens and paint the walls Van Gogh colors. One day she took ten hits, and she never came back. She made me shave her head and call her God, she stopped feeding Wolfgang (her dog) and herself, denounced deodorant, and became obsessed with Jane Roberts books, specifically The Nature of Personal Reality.

I'll write more when I'm not dozing off..

Lindsay

"Please don't touch me because I'm an Orange! If you touch me, I'll turn into orange juice!" Psychedelic urban legend? I remember when this story was first published in "Time" magazine what a fervor it caused. Now it's discredited.

News Item: "Princeton college professor, Dr. So-and-so, convinced two students to trip on LSD-25 then stare at the summer sun for hours and hours. The students went blind." Pschedelic urban legend (again)? I remember hearing, then reading, this story. Never happened.

Hey there Tippy Kazoo--are you trying to say I'm making this up about Jackie, my roommate? I don't think it qualifies as an urban legend, but that's only one out of dozens of tripping stories I know from actually being there.

I think the orange juice tale went more like this:] "'Don't touch me! I'm a glass of Orange Juice, and I'll spill if you touch me!"

Ah, well, it's all the same, right? Lol...

Perhaps. Do you remember this one: "If you trip, don't speed ... if you speed, don't trip." Well, it just so happens that some people cannot tolerate the initial feeling of exhilaration one is whacked with when tripping, so the "Doc-Heads," in such cases, would administer 5 to 10 milligrams of either dextroamphetamine sulfate or methylphenidate to ease the tripper through this initial portal of super-consciousness. It worked, or so I'm told. :-)
