Hi all,
I know it thas been sometime since I last posted..(family wedding and all that entails)
I hate to keep "singing the same old song", but I am afraid this is still going on.
I just finished physical therapy for my back, and it feels pretty good. However, my knees and foot have begun to flare up again! I have not taken any Vicodin in several days, but if the knees get worse, I probably need to take it again.
I had to call the doctors's office for a refill on my Ativan yesterday (I take 0.5mgm in the afternoon and one 0.5mgm at bedtime if I need it. The afternoon dose helps to take the edge off the nausea and jitters caused by my Strattera)
Anyway -- my regular doc was off so the operator was to have given him the message this AM.
I requested a refill on the Ativan to be called in to the pharmacy, and a written Rx for Vicodin to be mailed to me so I can have it IF I NEED IT for any of my arthritis problems (back, knees, foot, shoulder)
Then, this AM I get a call from another doctor in the practice (there are ten of them) mine had a family emergency. This guy really reamed me out for asking for "controlled substances" without being seen in the office first. (I WAS seen a month ago when pretty much the same thing happened and at that time, got a script with no trouble once THAT doc read the x-ray report on my back!) Now, this guy who called won't write for EITHER one; and when I asked to talk with someone else he told me no, that he wouldnt support "Doctor shopping or med seeking"
Sorry, I know that this is long, but this whole thing is so depressing -- where do I go from here??
Don't some people take Vicodin regularly and not have this war all of the time?? I have never abused it and usually take only one or two a day sometimes none -- I want to scream!!! Mama

How about you call the clinic and ask the receptionist to talk to someone other than the one you just talked to. And ask that he look at your x-rays before calling you back.
And yes, lots of people take pain meds without this hassle. My mom finally went to a pain clinic, where they understand that pain relief is not over-medicating.

AuntieMel -
That is precisely what I did even
before I read your post! Thanks for
the reinforcment! I guess I drive
the operators out there nuts, but
hey, this is MY body and MY pain!
I'll let you know what transpires.
Oh I forgot to mention, the other
fly in the ointment is that they always
make you go through a nurse first
(ie ,I leave the message with the
operator, who leaves it with the nurse,
who gives it to the doctor, who then
tells the nurse to see what I want or
to tell me the answer, and then has
the nurse call me!!! Occasionally, if
I INSIST, the doc will call me directly.
but it is always after five pm.I hate to sound like such a complainer, but the folks on this board are so good and supportive!!
Thanks again, Mama

I "feel your Pain",as someone use to say.I also see it from the Doc's side.I do agree that they are constantly battling "Pill-Seekers,Dr.Shoppers,Junkies"(even rich,bored,house-wives),trying nearly anything, in order to weedle or con them for"AWWW,C'mon Doc, just 1 refill!" on some Class Drug. They are under a lot of pressure from the DEA, who seem to hound Dr.,s more than the Street Pushers (whom they SHOULD be after). It is their duty to help Patients to be comforted, for any valid reason that they are seeing them about, especially Pain,Chronic,non-stop,aching,burning,throbbing,it's ALL BAD!I have heard of too many times when folks were not given Pain Pills when they really needed them. A true-to-Form,Honest,Caring Medical Pro will NOT be intimidated, nor swayed by DEA Watch-Dogs, so to deny people that are suffering, adequate relief-no matter how strong or what "Class" the drug is in.They are known in C.P.circles as "The Good Doctors". They are out there. If you just do a search for "Physicians who practice Pain Medicine in the (your area)".Go from there, starting with checking their Web-Site or calling them up.Ask questions,it's your right,as you said.Try this.It will work.Festus

AuntiMel,
Thanks for asking. Once my own physician got back in the office everything was cool. I was able to pick up both scripts at the desk and get them filled.
Amazingly, since getting the medication, I have not had enough pain to take it!!
Thanks all of yuo for your support...Mama

This is almost an expired post, but not too old, so I'll add my two cents:
It seems like the other doctor overreacted and let his own bias &/or bad experience with genuine substance abusers get in the way. I hope he/she apologizes for rushing to conclusions. Doctors like that can damage the credibility of the practice and possibly hurt other doctor-patient relationships. I would definitely let your doctor know about how this other doctor behaved.
So glad it worked out. Take care...
