...and therefore can't use Claritin or any of those other anti-allergy products, what can one do? This might sound unorthodox, but does anyone suppose smoking cigarrettes would possibley dry out and kill the inhaled spores?? And if so, would the dead mold spores simply stay in the lungs, being just as dangerous as when they were alive? Just trying to come up with something, because I'm hightly allergic to mold, it's all over the place, and weather man has just announced "MOLD ALLERT DAYS" for this week, in addition to his usual "HIGHLY DANGEROUS HEAT ALERT WARNING".
Or, does anyone know of any supplements which could help with this allergy and not mess with EMSAM?
Thanks,
Laima

I am allergic to moulds and yeasts and am reactive with a high IgE. There might be a few things you could look at to help.
What are your symptoms, though? That makes a difference.
I get sinus trouble.

Um... Go to the doctor?
Get a dehumidifier?

I don't think smoking cigarettes would do that. In fact... I figure smoking cigarettes would be more likely to irritate your airways thus leading to a worse allergic reaction and possibly infection.
Seriously... Probably doctor time...
There might be a kind of antihistamene that you could take... There are nasal sprays (do you get runny nose?) and there are tablets...
How helpful are pharmacists in general where you are? I've found pharmacists to be fairly good for advice.

No, cigarettes admittedly a pretty foolish idea for allergy remedy!Problem with airconditoners and dehumidifiers is how easily those systems end up full of mold, or just blow the same molds around-and if one can't use antihistimines, the usual advice is "make sure your air is clean..." that sort of thing. All of those nasal sprays and tablets such as Benedryl are not for use with any MAOIS, including EMSAM, unfortunately. I guess that is a major downside to taking EMSAM- so many common drugs are still considered too dangerous and can't be used concurrently with it or within several weeks of using it.
I get typical respiratory allergy symptoms with molds and dusts and pollution: harder to breath, tired, inflamation.

I would seelk advice considering
Baicall skullcap
Reishi
Albizia
ButterburLook, there are heaps of quite good herbs and antiinflammatory supplements, but you need a good herbalist. Preferably TCM.
Why not go to the Life Extension Foundation Website www.lef.org and look up their protocols.

I'm allergic to dust and mold, too. (I used to say I was allergic to Florida, but it's likely the high mold numbers.) :)
I take Claritin and Nardil. All resources I checked do not list the Claritin and Emsam (or Nardil) as having any problematic interaction. Benadryl is fine, too.
What you do have to avoid is many decongestants, in particular, pseudoephedrine. Cough medicines such as dextromethorphan are also contraindicated. That's what makes antihistamine use tricky. Many OTC ones are sold in combination with decongestants and other meds. I used to take Claritin-D which contained pseudoephedrine. Now that I am on Nardil, I've switched to just plain Claritin. Check packages carefully and/or check with your pharmacist or doctor.
I'd never recommend initiating smoking cigarettes as a strategy for dealing with a symptom or effect. There's too many risks compared to any benefits.

Thanks,I know the cigarrette idea was wishful thinking and/or brief lapse of stupidity! :) I've only smoked a handful of cigarrettes in my life, yet could still see how easy it would be to start a habit-best to simply not, and not get caught into any "plausable benefits" or other nonsense.
But it's interesting to hear what you are saying about Clariton and Benadryl. I'm going to try to get more information from my doctor and pharmacist, get into the specifics, because I thought they were strictly off-limits with selegeline in any form. Thank you for bringing this up. Relief from allergies would be very, very nice.
