lamictal efficacy?

Posted by Ladrhiana on November 29, 2006, at 23:08:10

i take 300 mg lamictal daily, and at times i take temazapam for sleep difficulties. i haven't noticed any exageration of my insomnia, but for me insomnia has been a problem from the onset of puberty.

i also take ativan as needed for anxiety attacks. but i do make a concerted effort not to take the narcotic drugs unless i am in dire need.

as sometimes, the lamictal doesn't curb the symptoms the doctor wants it to treat and when i feel an outburst coming or the rage irrationaly building, i will take an ativan to take the edge off my attitude and give my brain a break....

i'm diagnosed as psychotic with tendencies toward rage. is anybody else taking lamictal for this?
if so, is it working for you?

if not, why were you prescribed lamictal?
i'm not trying to pry or anything. i'm just curious about the scope of conditions this particualr madication can be used to effect.

thank you for your time
L.

Hi Ladrhiana, I was prescribed Lamictal for mood swings, but I have some borderline traits like strong tendencies to rage. While I was taking benzos Lamictal worked fine - brilliant in fact. Kept my mood rock solid, but when I was forced to withdraw from benzos I found it made my anger/irritability worse. I was losing my temper all over the place and wanted to kill people etc. It also made my insomnia worse so that I hardly slept.

Good luck with the Lamictal/benzo combo.
