Selegiline (Eldepryl) AND Tianeptine (Stablon)

Posted by Deus_Abscondis on December 5, 2006, at 19:08:34

Normally one wouldn't mix an MAOI and a TCA.

However, Tianeptine enhances Serotonin uptake and Selegiline is MAO-B selective (MAO-B does not deaminate Serotonin)

I would have thought that careful titration of Selegiline 1-5mg might be allowable watching out for any possible serotonin syndrome.

Has anyone tried this combination or have reasons for not trying it?

I haven't done it more than one day, but I see no reason not to try say 2.5mg selegeline with tianeptine.
My reason for not taking some deprenyl citrate with tianeptine is only insomnia.

Tianeptine x 4 plus deprenyl 1mg seemed too dopaminergic (at least that's what I thought the problem was)

Thanks but what does "too dopaminergic" feel like to you?

I'll have to check dopamine (DA) binding for Tianeptine (Stablon). I thought it was quite selective, but even if DA binding is low I guess some 'serotonin neurons' meet up with dopamine ones somewhere?

After all the pharmaceutical company hype about serotonin deficiency my doctor raised his eyebrows when I told him about the putative action of tianeptine. Wouldn't a re-uptake enhancer lead to lower synaptic levels or would feedback maintain them?

I'm quite concerned about reports that SSRIs may create long lasting or permanent changes in neural function (e.g., reduction in receptors, permanent sexual side effects)

For me SSRIs (Prozac, Zoloft) feel like emotional anaesthetics - not mood lifting.

It wasn't a good day for me. I'd been hoping that 4 tianeptines and 1mg deprenyl citrate would be a good idea, but it left me feeling a little uneasy. It wasn't seratonin syndrome or anything, as far as I know. I went to bed.
