If I don't drink I feel sick. This all started when I cut down on the zyprexa. I went from drinking 1 drink a week to 3 a day. And also developed a need for mj to sleep. which is worse zyprexa or this. I started drinking more to avoid the mj. Now I need the drink, every day after work. My evening does not start without it. I still miss the zyprexa and wish I could take it safely.
Not to sound like its all because of meds. I started drinking and smoking and pot at 15-16. I loved it, drank all the time up till 5 years ago. I quit the drinking and pot and becuse the zyprexa was enough. Well now they want me off the zyprexa, I don't know what to do. I started drinking smoking again to feel good. Now I'm an alcoholic, not that I didn't think I was 5 years ago but no one told me that, untill now.
I hate drugs and love them. Some times the alcohol(vodca and diet mountain dew) makes me feel great but a little bad at the same, a little sick in the stomack. Sometimes if I don't drink I get sick, throw up. Sometimes if I drink too much on the weekend I throw up. But all in all it makes me feel great. I just don't like a lot most of the time that makes me sick. Am I an alcoholic?
Does alcohol make blood sugar high in the morning or is it the zyprexa. that is the only time its high. I took zyprexa all by itself and 3 hours later blood sugar is high. I drink vodca and sugar goes low. Except for fasting in the morning after I eat it goes right back to normal.
I think alcohol is an anti-depressant. makes me feel great for a hole day. But if I don't drink the night before, the next day is awfull.

Hey, welcome to the club. I went through a long period of being reliant on drinking in my attempts to stabilize my moods. The physical aspects of addiction turned out to be the easiest part of stopping drinking for me. After a year and a half sober, I still deal with my triggers. Walking myself mentally through the process of drinking (the first one, the next who knows how many drinks, the blackouts, the following days of depression and feeling so very ill), really helps me stay away.
Campral (acamprosate) was invaluable during the initial period of sobriety. Have you ever tried it?
take care,

Oh goody. I get to share a little nugget of wisdom from my T.
"Alcohol is a wonderful anti-depressant. But it has some bad side effects, including... depression"
yeah. Alcohol is a powerful medication. Unfortunately, the body develops a tolerance for it, and so does the mind. It does some bad things to the human body when taken in excess. Yeah, we all know this.
I have found that alcohol causes me a lot more fatigue during the day than I used to remember. I guess my body is getting older. ugh. Well, so many good reasons to NOT drink. What are your reasons for cutting back on Zyprexa? How do the pros and cons favor one lifestyle vs. another?
Maybe you can talk to pdoc about switching around some of your meds. I talked to my pdoc about self-medicating with alcohol and got an Rx to substitute. Klonopin. Pdoc said that the side effects of klonopin are much less dangerous than the side effects of alcohol (depression, toxicity, dependence, etc...)
plus, my health insurance covers meds, doesn't cover the bar tab.

I'm cutting down on zyprexa because is raises my blood sugar. I now take half my origional dose and blood sugar is mostly normal again.
This is the end of the thread.
