Parnate, 1st wk, some Questions, any advice

Posted by AussieBoy on September 17, 2001, at 7:29:16

Ater being weaned of ciprimil (did not work) , then a week with nothing, have had 10mg Parnate for the past 5 days. I have been told to increase it each week by an additional 10 mg. Hopefully will kick in sometime.
BUT on my first day, had a weird experience that night, felt off colour, with a very clogged up throat, and seemed to produce a lot (a real lot) of very clear but very thick mucous.. eventually vomitted and went back to bed with the phone next to me just in case.
Would Parnate (or what I ate for dinner, some salmon and salad) course that?
AND is it true, I read it somewhere here, that 1mg/Kg is the required dose for Parnate, as my doc wants me to get up to 40 mg, where on taht basis, 1 shoudl be moving up to 80 odd mg.??
Thanks

Hi. I don't think what you ate for dinner would cause the reaction you had unless it just takes longer for your body to adjust to new medicines. Also, I've never heard of Parnate dosage being related to weight. I was on 40mg for many years, but in recent years have had to go up to 80mg (no, my weight hasn't doubled). I've just gotten the go ahead to go up to 120mg on a gradual basis. That should be interesting. Anyway, good luck. Parnate works very well for a lot of us.

Michael
