Effexor 37.5Mg

Posted by Sue F on May 11, 2004, at 13:28:24

Is anyone else taking Effexor 37.5mg, once a day? Do you feel it helps? Is anyone taking a lower dose?

Thanks,
Sue

I started on 37.5mg then up to 75mg then 150mg, still no joy just agitation so I stopped taking them. Sorry to sound negative thats just my experience with effexor.
I hope they work for you.

I think that is the lowest dose. I am on 112.5mg (a 75 and a 37.5 capsule) and once I weathered the side effects, it's been worth the effort. It was 12 weeks of being very uncomfortable but it was the only thing to crack my depression and keep it out of the way successfully.

Goodluck.

I started at 37.5 mg and have since moved up to 75mg. I found the side effects were worse at the beginning, but I did experience an immediate calming effect. After about a week and a half at 37.5mg the effect wore off and I increased my dose to 75mg. So far so good and no additional side effects from increasing the dose, which is great! Good luck!

I've been taking Effexor for close to 10 years now, and was at 75mg a day at one point. I was wondering how much an effect 37.5mg actually has and if I should try going off of it completely.

I started of on 37.5 per day for a week and felt no difference and quit taking it. Three weeks later I was still feeling like crap and the doc put me on 37.5 twice a day for two weeks. Still felt like crap and he upped it to 75 twice a day and after two weeks I began to feel somewhat better. After one year now I can say I feel almost normal. Not quite up to par but I can now do yard work and other chores without forcing myself. A year ago it would have taken a beating to make me mow the grass and I would have chosen the beating given a choice!!

I thank whatever Gods there may be for effexor!!!

FYI

As I stated on another thread...the thereputic
effects of EFFEXOR do not really begin until 150mg

For those experiencing benefits at lower doses
God bless you.

It has already been stated on this Board that the Placebo effect of Meds are very real.

I would encourge all who hacve found their "niche" dose, below 150mg...stay there as long as you can and enjoy!

That's the thing - I was wondering if 37.5mg has any effect at all and I'm also a little concerned with the long term use of it.

This is a mistake. It is based on an average. Some people(5 to 10 percent of the white population and perhaps more of the non-white population)are poor hepatic metabolizers. These people will react to a low dose of medication in the same way others react to a higher dose. This a genetic variation. Dosing should not be based strictly on the average person because people are not average! Most of the clinical trials are based on white males and this data should not be taken as "gospel" for a varied population. People that experience a greater than average number of side effects at low doses are frequently low metabolizers.

There is an equal percentage of people at the other end of the spectrum that are high metabolizers who will require greater doses to get the same effect.

I hope you are not suggesting that people who require lower doses are more likely to be experiencing placebo effect! In fact side effects are often the precursor to a good placebo response. Placebos are often made up to produce some side effects for that very reason. It stands to reason that the higher the dose the more the side effects and perhaps more placebo effect? There is also always the danger of increasing the dosage past any reasonable hope of efficacy in response to patients who achieve placebo response due to the percieved effect of higher doses. A little like the patient who demands an antibiotic for a virus may feel better because he has been validated by more heroic measures.

I agree that it is always best to use the right dose whether it is greater or lesser than the "average".

My son has been on 37.5 for almost 3 months, and I can honestly say, that for the last 3 weeks, we have had the best weeks EVER! 37.5 definately works for him, and I can see a change if he misses 1 dose. I think it has to do with the individual, and am happy that things are starting to look up for him. Hope they do for you too.
