HEy , everybody been reading alot of tread here and been on zoloft for 6 months , feel better was very stress panic attack, GED and depresse,
now take valium when needed and zoloft 100mg before going to bed but always feel kind of letargy, spacey... So I was wondering by reading your post that parnate is more stimulant and good for anxiety... can I take both zoloft and parnate ? my doc said just one anti dep at a time what's the deal ?

Your docs statement about "one anti dep at a time" is somewhat overcautious, but in this case he is right. Combining an SSRI (Zoloft) with an MAOI (Parnate) may cause serotonin syndrome which is very dangerous, sometimes even fatal. Furthermore Parnate requires that you stick to MAOI diet.

If you tend to oversleep and have trouble staying awake during the day it strongly suggests some noradrenergic (=norepinephrine) problem.

Some people benefit from Modafinil or Adrafinil (very similar apart from the price). They are fairly weak stimulants with few sideeffects and no abuse potential.

I have seen one pdoc advocating Nortriptyline (a tricyclic) combines with Zoloft as his favorite treatment. However tricyclics tend to have bad sideeffects.

Reboxetine (edronax) is certainly stimulating and activating but does have some sideeffects. I do not find them too bad as long as I stick to a low dose (2 x 2 mg/day). Reboxetine is approved for treatment of depression and panic attacks. It also reduces stress and rejection sensitivity. It can be combined with SSRIs.

Strattera is somewhat similar to Reboxetine but I know little about it.

I hope this can help you.

Yes be careful in combining combos of meds only your pdoc should know what is safe to combine. Good luck. Love Phillipa

usually an MAOI is a few more steps down the road... a good stimulant AD for me is wellbutrin. just make sure you get the brand name stuff because the generic stuff caused me a lot of anxiety and often nausea

There are a lot of different things that might help you, I think. I know someone that had much less drowsiness by switching to Cymbalta/duloxetine, from zoloft. Prozac is also considered less likely to cause drowsiness.

I also think switching to wellbutrin, or nortriptyline are good ideas--naturally your doctor is bound to have his own suggestions, too.

Best of luck,
Psychbot
