serotonin/zoloft?

From what I understand the Doctor prescribed zoloft 50 mg a day because my serotonin levels were too high thus the anxiety without depression. Does zoloft increase serotonin or decrease or satabalise? I have only been experiencing anxiety for about 6 weeks or so...I think it was because I was on Levlen "the pill" ever since then i have been jittery and have been anxious. I have only started taking zoloft and was wondering how it worked and how long it would take to start working?
