In reply to serotonin/zoloft?, posted by Christine on January 7, 1999, at 16:56:48
As far as I know, zoloft works to increase the availability of serotonin in the brain; maybe one of the docs can comment on whether it would be advisable in your situation. But again, I'd suggest going off the pill (and using a barrier method--a diaphragm or condoms + spermicide--for a while to see if the anxiety goes away when you're not taking the pill. If it does, maybe you could use another method or try another type of pill (there are lots of different ones available). Altering your hormones can affect your mood. I took Zoloft for a while. It took a few weeks to kick in, worked well as an anti-depressant, but gave me other flu-like side effects, so I had to stop taking it.
> From what I understand the Doctor prescribed zoloft 50 mg a day because my serotonin levels were too high thus the anxiety without depression. Does zoloft increase serotonin or decrease or satabalise? I have only been experiencing anxiety for about 6 weeks or so...I think it was because I was on Levlen "the pill" ever since then i have been jittery and have been anxious. I have only started taking zoloft and was wondering how it worked and how long it would take to start working?
