I took tricyclics for years,amitrip...I'm not a doc but wonder why your doc isn't going with the newer meds like Wellbutrin or Effexor first. Prozac isn't the only SSRI to try. Paxil, Zoloft,
whatever! Some of the side effects I had with tricyclics were not fun! You shouldn't have to suffer. Personally I would find another doc.
