I tried Moclobemide once. I was a rare statistic in having a very bad initial reaction at just 75mg. My doc stepped in immediately and took me off it after just 2 days. That's VERY rare. However, prior to this I studied and researched everywhere about Manerix. Here's what I found out.

Some docs say it's wonderful. Some say it's weak. But the general consensus was that it is most effective at the top of it's dosage range. It's even more effective higher than the stated maximum dose. Some docs go over the limit with good results and no adverse reactions. The "normal" doses probably aren't enough based on what I've read. So just be aware that in general, not always, it seems to be a drug where the highest tolerated dose is where you can expect good response.

Side effects are supposedly more tame than SSRIs. No diet problems either. A common early side effect is irritability or jitteriness that is said to disappear completely in a couple weeks with continued use. Like any drug, there's that hump to get over in the beginning. The doc I saw said he regularly adds small amounts of just about any other AD out there (except other MAOIs) if needed for potentiation. Of course the label warns against that, but in practice it is being done.

It's a shame the USA will never have this drug. The doc explained this to me. It's patend will soon expire. Then it will become generic. Companies don't want to spend the millions of dollars needed to push a drug through FDA trials when it's just going to be a generic. Could be a great drug for you. That's probably why your doc chose it.
