I am a pharmacist who will be giving a presentation to a group of doctors (general practitioners) about Effexor on Feb. 16/00 & would like any feedback from patients who have tried Effexor for depression or other conditions. Did it work or not. Anything you would like me to inform the docs about on the use of Effexor. The info will be passed on and will be greatly appreciated.

Cam, I have taken Effexor for about 2 months now, starting at 37.5 mg/day and gradually increasing to 225 mg/day, for OCD and depression. It helps with the obsesssions and compulsions somewhat, and definitely has upped my mood so that I don't feel totally helpless or hopeless. At first, I had some agitation, which has diminished. It is nice because it doesn't have the terrible sexual side effects or anticholinergics like other medications I've tried (Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft). It doesn't decrease social anxiety for me as much as Serzone did (but Serzone, which was I was taking at 450 mg/day, didn't help the OCD and gave me strange ocular side effects). There is a case study with l0 patients by Dr. Jenike and others that suggested that Effexor is beneficial for people with OCD, so I have hopes that this will be a good drug for me. When I next see my pdoc, I want to ask him to increase the Effexor and maybe allow me to take a small dose of Serzone. Best wishes!--Cindy W, cwebster@slonet.org
P.S. this is kind of embarrassing, but the Effexor-XR did change the quality of my orgasm...it is more satisfying, but I only feel the need for one now (instead of several as I did in the past). It takes a little longer to get there, but the end result is wonderful, and my head is free of thoughts...my boyfriend said this is more like a "male orgasm." It feels like I "reboot."
