In reply to On Ritalin- Can I Quit Effexor now?, posted by Libby on July 7, 2000, at 10:37:45
Hi, Libby... As I am not an "expert", I do have experience with Effexor and ADD. I was diagnosed ADD a few years back and just last year went through hell with Effexor that was scribed for it. One day I relized just how badly it was making me feel so I quit cold turkey. I DO NOT recommend that method!! Anyway, when I was finally put on Adderall, (similar to ritalin) I noticed I no longer felt I needed an AD. I guess my depression was a by product of the untreated ADD. It is my opinion, the less meds, the better. I am also not very fond of Effexor. It made me feel "cloudy" and waayy out of it, no help at all to an inattentive ADD'er! I would have a talk with the doc and let him/her know how you are feeling and take it VERY slow getting off the Effexor. It seems to be a bad one for withdrawl syptoms. I was a mess for weeks after quiting it, course, I didn't quit it in the recommended fashion, either! As I was saying, if the ritalin is working, you may have no need at all for the added AD. Hope it all works out!
