I think I agree with you. It is hard to buy into any particular theory. I think as humans the best anyone can do is compartmentalize theories into overly simple concepts like neurotransmitter levels or whatever. At least that way we can grasp something that may in fact be to too much to grasp at this time in history. Even the most intricate technical understanding of what a particular drug does in the brain is still nowhere near explaining why it helped someone's depression but not someone else's, or even how it's related to depression at all.Personally I think all theories have some validity and some faults. I tend to blend theories in my own understanding of things.
Regardless, after all the advancements in the field of neurology and psychiatry, it's almost humorous that the only way to find out if a drug will help someone's depression or not is to try it and see. Geez.
One theory I truly believe because I've seen it too many times to discount it as fluke, is that the closer a drug is to correcting whatever the problem is, the quicker and more dramatic the good response to that drug will be. Another theory I believe is that there are so many things in the brain that can somehow cause identical depression symptoms. That is why different people get excellent results with dramatically different drugs. I believe that. What works for someone won't necessarily work for someone else, because the underlying problem could be one of who knows how many possible problems.
Hope the Tianeptine goes well for you. I like Amisulpride. I hated Modafinil. It will be interesting to see how these work with you. Hopefully very well.
