I have been on various meds for a long time now. I had to see a new psychiatrist today, I am not sure if I should see him again or find another new one. I am currently on prozac 40mg twice a day, effexor 75mg trice a day, dexedrine 15 mg, and ambien 10mg. The doctor that I saw today wants to increase my prozac to 80mg twice a day, discontinue the effexor, and start me on Topamax 100mg twice a day. Isn't 160 mg of Prozac a bit much? I know that my previous doctor that I have seen for years and trusted a lot said that he would not go over 80mg on the Prozac (he moved that is why I am not able to see him anymore) All of the drug information that I have read says that the max daily dose of Prozac should not exceed 80mg. Is it safe for me to try taking 160mg? I am also concerned with the Topamax side effects. I was in a car accident and am in a wheel chair temporarily, and am scheduled to start physical therapy this week, and begin walking using the crutches. I asked him if the Topamax would effect my balance, he said it would, I expressed my concerns about starting physical therapy. He told me just to not take it on days that I have therapy. But what about every other day? I will be walking on my own with the crutches and I am not at a point where I want to fall and make my current injuries worse or break more bones. Should this be a concern for me or am I overreacting? I have had a significant increase in the depression since the accident, and he stated that with the Topamax that I will feel much worse for about a month. I really can not imagine feeling any worse then right now. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
