It allegedly has MAOI type effects which are mild and reversible (i.e., you don't have to go on an MAOI diet). Any links to *scientific* information would also be appreciated.

Hi.

The NIMH (National Institute of Mental Health) has used procaine in the past as a "challenge" to see how people would react to it while their vital signs and brain function were being recorded. They found its psychiatric effects to be highly variable. I know of one person for whom procaine was the only drug to produce a state of relief from his chronic depression. Unfortunately, it lasted for less than an hour. Others reacted to it by becoming very hostile, dysphoric, and even psychotic. I don't know what dosages they used, but I'm pretty sure procaine was administered intravenously
